Im about to purchase some AR7s from my local shop and next i will need some bindings.. i will be skiing park only pretty much, 5'11 140.. also i have been trying to research and I'm not sure where to mount them.. the ski i heard isn't recommended center.. but will it still be okay? will -1.5 feel different than my normal center??
the ski isnt symmetrical so the recommended mounting point is a little behind true center. That being said, the ski can still be center mounted and it will perform fine either way.
I have mine mounted at -1.5 which feels fine for all-mountain/park. Recommended is -2.5, but I like mine a bit closer center. I doubt there is much difference between these two mounting points regardless.
Recommended is -2.5cm from center. As the previous posters have said, the ski is not symmetrical and mounting them at dead center will put you a bit forward of the sidecut.
However, it really comes down to personal preference and what feels best for you while skiing. For example, Hornbeck skis his at dead center; Tanner usually goes -1/-1.5cm, and still others opt for the recommended, etc.
As for binding recommendations, the majority of our team riders and employees use the Peak Series bindings from Tyrolia (either the Peak 15 or 18).
Other great options include the Salomon STH or Atomic FFG.
for bindings def reccomended Head tyrolia 15 din binder. Also make sure you get them drilled with the step down bit... the step down actually helps the binding from getting ripped out
I put my AR7 at -2.5. I ski 50% park and 50% all mnt. If I skied any more park I'd put probably -2.0.
If I skied all park all the time then -1.5. I Wouldn't go any more then that on a non symmetrical ski.
He is 5 11 and weighs 140....and skis Ohio? Unless hes hucking himself around.... why does he need anything higher then a 12 din.... I mean if he wants, but god for bid if he ever needed it that high. Good choice with the AR7's I have mine at center and love it. I also have STH 12s on them. I recommend the drivers.
For a binding pick one of the following. Rossi/look/dyns, atomic, Salomon, or Tyrolia. Any of those will last awhile and do the job great. Also at your size I wouldnt go past a 12 din. Unless your hitting massive jumps on a daily basis. Other wise a 12 din will work for a long time.
I'm also interested in where to mount my ar7's. I was thinking at putting them at -2.5 as I ski 50% park and 50% all mountain, but what do you guys think?
Mine are 1.5 back and I have Marker griffons which work well, they ski similar to my center mounted K2s I use to have and they ski fine switch, a cm or two wont make a difference really. Just mount at recommended probably.
