How to grease a slackline ratchet???

I have had my slackline for a month or so and have been using it a ton and the ratchet is getting slow and loud and creaky and it like scrapes up against its self as i tighten it. It has problems and when my friend got a new one i was tightening his and his ratchet was a lot smoother. My ratchet needs to be lubed but i dont know how or what to use. i was thinking maybe WD40 but idk so please help! And i also need instructions on how.

Please only answer if you have experience with lubing a ratchet. Dont just guess what would be a good way.

Also the black fabric on the reinforced loops on the ends are tearing from all the friction of the slackline. What can i do to fix it? Its a gibbon slackline. ive heard gibbon slacklines suck and are overrated and someone said that perfect tension is better. Im thinking of getting a perfect tension line next time i buy one. Any advice?

i don't have any experiance with slacklines but i have a ton of experiance with bikes and i can tell you that WD40 is the worst possible thing you can use. WD40 is essentially a solvent so it will break down any grease you do have left in the ratchet.

what i might recommend is a lithium grease but i would imagine to properly lube it you would need to completely disassemble the unit to do it properly

usually any automotive supply store should have some kind of it. any brand will be fine for what you're using it for

This. Maybe hit it with an organic solvent or citrus soap or something to clean it out first, then lithium grease. You might find it called white lithium grease too. I've seen it in home depot I think.

I mean you could apply it anyway you want. I'm not familiar with the ratchet obviously, but clean it with like some alcohol or something, squirt, rag/paper towel soaked with it, dunk the thing in, whatever. Put some grease on the joints or contact parts, not too much though.

WD40 might be fine for a bit, if I remember right you are basically just using a come-a-long style ratchet so it may be alright to just get the crap out of the gears or whatever. If you want to grease it with actual grease, go get a tube at the hardware store or auto supply and just glob a little bit on there and work it back and forth until its all up in there are working smoothly again. Its pretty hard to buy the wrong stuff for this application so just have at it.
