chalk is nostalgic, but definitely more difficult to use than a white board. there is definitely something nice about the clicking and scratching sounds on slate, and it was always a good laugh when a teacher would leave chalk hand prints on her body, but its just not as easy to use.
i feel somewhat shitty that none of my schools had whiteboards until high school.
seems like they just didn't use them when i was little.
Then in college we had a mix. I liked chalkboards because we never had the problem of a marker dying, and being barely visible from more than 2ft away but the prof never noticed.
Yes but you don't draw on the physical white board, the camera/projector has motion capture technology and creates a digital representation of what you write. I used one every day and I'm still pretty iffy about it, sometimes they don't register your marker strokes. All in all, it's not a bad piece of technology for classrooms.
A high quality chalkboard with good chalk is the best. writes like butter, not much dust. much easier to shade or draw dotted lines. If you get way to intense you just snap a 5 cent piece of chalk instead of ruining a $1 marker. Plus your work just pops out of board as if its the only thing there, easy on the eyes, no reflections etc.
For a lecture hall, hands down chalk is the best. If you have a small room then I see the case for the whiteboard.
oh god just fuck chalkboards FUCK THEM they have that annoying sound when you write on them, make your hands dry as fuck and can make the room all dusty.
Chalkboards that are worth a darn are hard to come by these days.
Real slate boards are great but rare in a big size. The green boards are just a special paint.
The ones University's use are often rather good.
Also chalk can easily be "patted" out of fabrics, whiteboard 'dust' ruins the cuffs on a white shirt. (yes the markers emit bloody fine 'dust' particles.
For me:
Chalkboard > Smartboard > Whiteboard.
Also don't forgot the epic chalkboard eraser battles.
You can buy the green chalkboard paint at home depot in spray can form. And as long as I have different colors I don't care if it's chalk or white. Smartboards are annoying because they're never calibrated right and derp all over the place.
We always used to fight over who got to clap out the erasers at the end of the day. I love the feeling of writing on a white board though with a marker.
Whiteboard. just don't like the sound of chalkboards and fuck smartboards. smartboards are pretty much pointless, nobody uses them to the full advantage. just project something on a whiteboard and use that, unless you plan on uploading the notes.
