The Dark Knight Rises: What did you guys think?

I personally thought it was way too drawn out and that they introduced way too many new plot aspects. We only get to see Batman kicking ass in like 2 scenes too.

Personally, i hate the Batman series in general. His "Bat Voice" is annoying and isnt fooling anyone. He is NOT a superhero for he has NO superhuman abilities, just a motive and incredibly wealthy. Why the hell would you wear a cape if you cant fly? I know i know, A cape isnt doing shit for superman, but he can fly either way so idgaf.

FUCK batman.

Wingsuits are meant to be accompanied by a parachute not some silly billy fiberglass suit. How realistic is it having a semi-wingsuit, but no parachute?
Estimating an increase of MAYBE 5ft acceptable height from drops. How often does batman even use it, most of the time he just has uses one of those little rich white boy gadgets

Okay but what did you think about Dark Knight Rises?

I thought it was really good, but I could see what OP means with too many new characters/plot directions. Still didn't disappoint me however.

I thought it was just about as good as Batman Begins, so fairly good.

The Dark Knight was outstanding because of Heath Ledger. If he didn't die, TDKR would have been amazing as well. Heath as the Joker is one of the greatest roles ever IMO.

Movie was awesome. If I hear one more person say the ending was cheesy I'll slap them. They ended it perfectly (aside from the fact that his Batcopter flew the safe 6 miles in like 15 seconds). Nolan wrapped the series up leaving very few questions and in a way that should have left most satisfied. It was a little slow in the middle but that was for character development and came in handy at the end. Overall great fucking movie 9.2/10.

I loved it. Did not see the whole Bane relationship coming to be perfectly honest. It was slow at times, but that was fine by me.

Side note question, wouldnt the bomb contaminate the water when it exploded?

I also would have rather seen Gordon-Levitt come back as Asreal and stay true to the commics but i'm sure a lot of people wouldn't have gotten that apposed to Robin

i personally loved it. i don't think ive ever said badass so much in a movie. i don't understand the hate for Bane? i thought tom hardy was fantastic and that fight in the sewers was one of if not the best of the trilogy

Lots of political undercurrents, really enjoyable.

Although I will admit, I checked over my shoulder a few times when the shooting scenes started... And with all of the themes of revolt, violence, rebellion a la marx, I felt sick to my stomach knowing that someone actually came into the movie theater and shot people. Makes me think that the movie inspired his motives.

The beginning of the movie had way too much telling/not enough showing. Some of the subplots could easily have been cut out, as they did nothing but add to the length of the movie. I also felt that the political undercurrents were too heavy handed. That being said, halfway through things picked up and I really enjoyed the ending. Overall not as good as the dark knight, but still one of the best superhero movies ever made.

one of the main points of the movie is that anyone can be a hero. they're not exactly trying to tell everyone to go be vigilantes, but to be their own 'hero' in their own way. Bale's character just chose to embrace his biggest fear, bats, and use his fear to combat the evil and dishonesty he saw in Gotham. The money was just something that was luckily there, and made for a logical reason for Freeman's character creating more shit for him to use.

dub post my bad, but I couldn't see the catwoman + batman relationship. I'm glad it happened though, catwoman was hot as fuck.

the bomb was above the water, so i guess so.

but what most people don't know, is that at the end of the movie, lucius fox (morgan freeman) was examing the Bat (another that wasn't fucked up in the detonation), and was wondering that if he could've fixed the auto-pilot, allowing batman to bail the Bat as it was going out to the bay to detonate the bomb. The engineers are sitting there, and not understanding his question, because the operating system says it is functioning. Lucius said something like this 'What? It's been patched? What's the name on the patch?' and the engineers say 'Bruce Wayne.' Thats the last actual line of the movie, but Bruce + Catwoman are seen at the aforementioned cafe in Florence, sitting across from Alfred. I'll let you guys figure that one out for yourselves.

Btw, am I the only one who felt inspired to become a cop (lol) after seeing officer blake (robin)'s character?

I personally thought it was a pretty well done film. I felt that the only mixed feelings I had were regarding the inaccuracies with Bane, Ra's al Ghul, and the "surprise" character. I know Christopher Nolan was going for a more realistic approach with the characters and back story, but it killed me to see that Bane was missing the "Venom"/superhuman steroid aspect (although where the location of his story line with DKR and the Venom experimentation can easily be disputed). I just really felt that Nolan missed an opportunity in some way. Probably the most irritating thing was the "surprise" character's relationship to Bane. According to the character's true story line it's actually Batman that this character is close too, not Bane. This is not to mention the motivations of Ra's al Ghul and his legacy. Same goes for Ledger's Joker. However, this role was filled so well that I just found myself ignoring the inaccuracies. /geek rant

However, I was pretty impressed. Not as ground breaking as DK, but a worthy sequel.

I love those movies. I really like how deep into the plot they go. Really cool development of the story and a cliffhanger end...I thought it was good! Heath ledger was what made the 2nd one great so I had high expectations for this one. I did however think the 2nd one was better

one of the things i didnt understand was how the fuck did they travel between the hole and gotham. he just kinda appeared in gotham randomly. And how those guys could build all that shit underground in the sewers with 3000 police officers stationed in gotham. personally not really my cup of tea, but it was alright.

Personally, no. As I said above, The DKR's Bane is just to far away from the DC universe's for my preference. Bane was just lacking the superhuman/experiment that I was looking for. Although Ledger's Joker is not perfectly accurate to the originals of the DC universe, it was close enough for me to ignore that fact. I will admit that DKR's Bane was a great villain, but it wasn't that Bane I wanted.

I personally thought the movie was very good, but parts in the middle and beginning could be taken out... KInda just made the movie that much longer. But still a great movie.

i thought his death should have been better
that girl should not have been the bad guy, unnecessary plot twist
alfred should have been used more and differently as well as lucius

other than that i loved it. not as good as the dark knight but better than batman begins

I am a HUGE Batman fanboy, and have read tons of the comics, and I really loved the movie.

Thought it did a very good job of closing the storyline and loved the villains!

The one thing was that they completely messed up Bane's backstory, or altered it drastically. They didn't talk about Venom at all, and instead changed it to morphine or painkillers or whatever that was being fed into his mask to alleviate back pain, instead of super steroids, which is essentially what Venom was, so that was not awesome.

Other than that though loved the plot twist at the end regarding Talia al Ghul, and thought that was executed perfectly, and personally I really liked the ending, and thought it closed the series fantastically.

To you and all the people above posting about story line accurateness, you guys need to read into the graphic novels, not the comic books. The graphic novels are what revitalized the Batman series and where Nolan drew most of his inspiration from. If it was based off the comic books storyline strictly these films would have been such a joke and dumbed down popcorn fest.

Plus, everyone likes these movies because of they are somewhat grounded in a realistic manner. I preferred this Bane to a hulking steroid guy that is just out of place within the realm of the trilogy.

Don't get me wrong on the inaccuracies. Yes, some of them bothered me, but I really enjoyed the film. My hat is of to Nolan; I think what he put together was a fantastic trilogy and an excellent addition to the Batman universe. I just feel that there are some things that he could have put into some of the characters (like Bane's Venom or at least emphasize the mask and what it does)to enhance them. I do concur on the "hulking steroid guy" point you make. I think his part was excellent, but I just feel that a part of Bane is missing.

Just got back from the movie, and I loved it. After getting over the whole theater shooting paranoia, and finally going to see it.

It wasn't quite as good as The Dark Knight, but I don't think it could have been. I thought that bane was a pretty cool villain though, and his entire plan was entertaining to watch unfold. The way he trapped the police officers, and then brought gotham into a state of chaos while batman was in the pit was quite clever. I also liked how the whole movie linked up with batman begins, I kinda felt like the dark knight lacked some connectivity to ra's al ghul and that whole part of the story, but that also could have been due to the fact that I saw the first movie after the second one. I thought the ending was good but I would have been happy if batman had died during the sacrifice he made. The girl being evil was an interesting plot twist, and since I haven't read a lot of the comics I didn't see it coming. Can anybody tell me why Bane had to help her escape the pit prison place and later get fucked up by the other occupants and when Bruce Wayne was in the pit all of the inmates supported him in his escape? Also their was all of that banter about how bane was born in darkness and that was all he knew, yet the girl was the one who was actually born in the jail prison pit shindig. Another thing I really enjoyed was the whole catwoman involvement in the story. I have read a few comics and I liked how they maintained the relationship she has with batman. When I heard Anne Hathaway was playing catwoman I was a little bummed, but she was actually pretty attractive in context. Those are my thoughts. +K to anyone who can answer my questions about Bane and the prison place.

this. the movie seemed very sloppy on the details. did anyone else notice the stock market scene begins during the day and ends at night? like it seemed like nolan tried to cram too much in too little of space which is crazy given the long run time. idk batman begins was much more secint and powerful and dark knight was way ahead of this one

Bane's origin story is established in the story "Vengeance of Bane". He was born in the fictional Caribbean Republic of Santa Prisca, in a prison called Peña Dura ("Hard Rock"). His father Edmund Dorrance had been a revolutionary and had escaped Santa Prisca's court system. The corrupt government, however, decreed that his young son would serve out the man's life sentence, and thus Bane's childhood and early adult life were spent in the amoral penitentiary environment.[3][4]
Though imprisoned, his natural abilities allowed him to develop extraordinary skills within the prison's walls. He read as many books as he could get his hands on, built up his body in the prison's gym, and learned to fight in the merciless school of prison life. Because of the cultural and supposed geographical location of Santa Prisca, Bane knew how to speak English, Spanish, Portuguese and Latin. Despite his circumstances, he found teachers of various sorts during his incarceration, ranging from hardened convicts to an elderly Jesuit priest, under whose tutelage he apparently received a classical education. Bane murdered this priest upon his return to Santa Prisca years later. He committed his first murder at the age of eight, stabbing a criminal who wanted to use him to gain information about the prison.[4] During his years in prison, Bane carried a teddy bear he calls Osito (Spanish for "little bear"), whom he considered his only friend.[5] It is revealed that Osito has a hole in his back to hold a knife that Bane used against anyone who bullied him.[3][4]
Bane ultimately established himself as the "king" of Peña Dura prison. The prison's controllers took note and eventually forced him to become a test subject for a mysterious drug known as Venom,[4] which had killed all other subjects; the drug was administered by a doctor who bore a passing resemblance to another Batman foe, Hugo Strange. Later, in Vengeance of Bane II the very same doctor encountered Bane again in Gotham and it is confirmed that it is not Hugo Strange, who at that point in Batman continuity was a crazed psychologist and not a surgeon.[4] The Peña Dura prison Venom experiment nearly killed Bane at first, but he survived and found that the drug vastly increases his physical strength, although he needs to take it every 12 hours (via a system of tubes pumped directly into his brain) or he will suffer debilitating side-effects.[3][4]

Hopefully that will explain some of Bane's back story.

I'm also a bit confused on the Talia/Bane relationship to be honest. The movie implies he helped out of love/friendship. But, if you look at the origin story, it implies that he ruled the prison, and yet gets ganged up on? I honestly want to see it again to try to connect the dots.

I get that. Maybe he left it out because he had already done too much "toxin" type stuff in Batman Begins, because he also left it out of Dark Knight.

And as someone pointed out the only continuity part that really got to me was how he went from ancient prison straight to Gotham with less than 12 hours remaining on the nuke clock.

Bane helped her out because he felt a connection to her... I guess she grew up and they fell in love. He was beaten because she was female, which weren't allowed in the pit, and Mrs.Ra a's ghul. And the movie didn't go into detail about Bane's birthplace, for all we know, he could've been born in the pit aswell.

I completely understand that they were based off of the graphic novels but do you not understand that graphic novels are merely an arc of a storyline of monthly comics that is compiled into one place?

The absolute best Batman comics (in my opinion) or graphic novels as you say were Batman Year One and The Killing Joke (the one Ledger's Joker was inspired from), but before they were graphic novels they were monthly comic books that were then compiled into graphic novels and put all together, so comic books and graphic novels are incredibly similar.

Bane was initially introduced in the Knightfall saga (later compiled into GRAPHIC NOVELS), and never in any incarnations of his, in any graphic novel or otherwise monthly comic has he been portrayed as having morphine fed into his mask as in the movie. It has always been Venom.

I was just commenting on it, I still loved the movie.

I refer to them as graphic novels due to their distinctness apart from expansive comics in the canon that are absurd, nobody really ever read. I don't think I need to get learned because people need to realize all these stories are written by different people within the canon of Batman so there will be discrepancies. Each telling is a re imagining so the films should be no different. Nolan doesn't need to follow anything after what he's done with the first two films.

As for Bane I will clarify in saying that the graphic novels by Loeb and Miller put a new and much more realistic spin on the Batman franchise and as Nolan drew inspiration from these anybody could tell that the "venom" plot device just really wouldn't work in this new grounded world of Batman created by these two artists. I'm not saying your story of Band isn't correct, but that it didn't fit.
