Bike as much as you can pre surjury, and then as soon as you can after. Use the bike at first to increase ROM, then as you feel better start using a higher resistance to strengthen knee, and regain cardio endurance. Biking is great for your knee
Yes, since it doesn't involve sidways movement and high impacts on the knees it is a good sport for pre-op and rehab. However, keep it to road biking and gear in lower speeds so you focus on movement rather than sheer force. Don't go ride a fixed gear.
You won't be able to trail ride for a couple of months depending on your PT's thoughts on 'risky' activities. But you'll be able to ride a stationary bike at around 4-6 weeks and then ride on the road as soon as that is confortable. Then you'll slowly build up to trail riding then high intensity cross country then dh.
