I hate people like OP, dont tell me what to do with my hard earned money asshole. You ever walk through boston/cambridge? If I gave money to every worthless bum I saw on the street I'd be broke by noon.

There are a lot of homeless people with mental and physical problems I feel bad for - especially women and children. Those people need help from our government. However the dozens of piss drunk/drugged up men I see giving the me the same sob story every fucking day on my way to and from work pisses me off

I would rather someone ask me for money so they can buy booze than lie to me.
If they ask for money for food, I might buy them a bag of crisps or something, but I've know people who've had homeless people freak out because of it.

yup.

my family and I were waiting at the bus stop after a Seahawks game and this homeless guy came up to us and said he really needed $10 more to pay the storage unit facility that had all of his stuff so that he could get it out and start his life over. His story went on for about an hour until my dad caved and gave him $10.

We then realized the bus would take another 20 minutes to get there, so we walked across the street to the diviest bar in Seattle on 5th & Jackson-- he in there, buying two shots of whiskey with the $10.

You can tell if a homeless person is a drug addict, if you give them a mcgriddle in the morning and they are more than grateful, they just need to get back on their feet. If they don't give much of a response they are drug addicts.

remind me again how im being a hypocrite if im not turning around and asking people for money? because here i thought being a hypocrite meant saying one thing, then doing the opposite. for instance:

don't drink alcohol it's bad for you. *proceeds to drink alcohol*

or

studying is a waste of time. *proceeds to study five hours a day*

you know, that kind of thing.

I always offer to buy them lunch if I have the time. I was headed home after a party and I saw man panhandling at about 2am. I offered him McDonald's and he started crying he was so happy. We sat down and ate a meal and afterwards, I tossed him a few bucks. Sometimes people actually do need the money but there are a lot of frauds out there as well.

Funny story about homeless people, about 2 years ago my dad was meeting y uncle to carpool down to some property he owns. They ended up meeting at a gas station in a run down part of town because my uncle needed gas. While my uncle was filling up, my dad got out to use the bathroom. On his way their a woman asked him for five bucks because that was the amount of bus fair she needed to get home to her kids. So my dad gave her a five dollar bill and went to the bathroom. On his way out of the bathroom, he saw the woman panhandling at another car that was filling up. He walked up to her and asked her for his money back. The woman was flabbergasted today the least and asked him "why the fuck he would want to take her money" to which my dad calmly replied, "you said you needed five dollars for the bus, so I gave you exactly five dollars. You dont need any more than that, but you're being greedy so I want my money back. She scoffed and stormed off out of the parking lot. So my dad loved telling the story for the past two years, then in may my dad went to a public concert and saw the same woman panhandling the crowd. He yelled out to her saying that he was the guy that two years ago wanted his money back at the shell station. She replied that she'd give it to him when she managed to get five dollars. My dad laughed and said not to worry about it and handed her another five dollar bill.

Came in here to say this same damn thing.

Why do we owe them anything when we worked hard for our money? Now we can't enjoy it and we OWE it to people who, most likely, sat on their asses all day and take money from people who worked for it. Fill out an application to burger king. Stop taking money from us.

I once had a chat with an homeless guy (it was raining and we were both waiting for a tram that took half an hour to arrive) he told me that he actually wasn't homeless at all.

He had an home, leeched of the government because he couldn't work anymore due to a leg injury and made about 200-300 euros a day chilling on the street watching people go by.
He took pictures of the people on the street with an old film Leica M6 roughened up and taped over to look cheap. He had some incredibly shots.

He enjoyed sitting on the street, observing the people that walked by.


I can't fully condone his way of live but I applaud his entrepreneurship.

I one time offered a man warm food who was holding a sigh that read "anything helps" he said he only wanted cash (i wonder what for). since then I never give any change to homeless people.

Haha similar story. Gave a homeless man two dub cheeseburgers and small fry from mcdicks. Said he just needed a ride and through the food ontop of his bag of shit. Never again will I try to be nice to some ungrateful pos.

Being in a lot of sketchy places in Pittsburgh I've heard all the stories of why someone needs 20, 30, 50, 100 bucks to get their car out of the impound lot, for bus fare, ect... and it really fucking frustrates me when the people tell you that they'll send you a moneygram or some stupid shit as soon as they get home. No you fucking won't. If you needed bus fare because you need to get home to your kid who you forgot you locked in the fridge and left the stove on with a stack of wood in the oven then maybe I'd walk to the bus station and buy you the damn ticket out of the kindness of my heart, but when you don't even know where the bus station is, but know that a ticket will be exactly 60 dollars, then you can eat a dick.

i figure they should just go to prison. they should just go rob a bank or something, you know? if they get away with it, they're set for whatever they want to destroy their lives with. If they get caught, they get a roof over their head, meals provided for them, and I think they even get paid a small amount while in there. Yep, jail sounds much better than begging on the sidewalk.

last time i gave ahomeless man something, it was half a sandwich and an apple to an old man. he wasnt even asking for money, his sign read "old, hungry, and poor, anything helps." he was the most grate ful son of a bitch i ever did see. and exactly the opposite, i saw a meth head looking female probably around 19-20 in skimpy clothes with a sign that said "college student, cant pay for school" under neath a high way no where near any college.

I've had homeless people turn down free, untouched food, presumably because they were looking for drug/alcohol money. Really turned me off of the whole idea of giving anything to homeless people on the street altogether. It's much better to donate to shelters knowing that it will go to homeless people who are genuinely trying to get their lives on track.
