Wuddup all, coming to the gear talk for the first time in a long time for advice.
I need new skis. I've been riding 08/09 t-halls for 3 years now, and it's finally time to get a new pair before the season starts in a few months.
Here's the problem. Since I first got my T-halls, I haven't paid much attention to skis. I used to be real into looking at skis and stuff, but the past few years I haven't, so now I'm kinda in the dark.
However, I am familiar with what I gotta say to get the best advice so here it goes:
--
I'm 5'6
135 pounds or so
Mostly park, but I like to venture the all mountain.
I really just liked the t-halls because they were flexy yet not noodles, bombproof, and never gave me any problems.
I could get a pair of 11/12 T-Halls for 375 shipped. I heard they're not much different than my 08/09's...but Armada made them slightly stiffer...slightly more this, slightly more that, yadayada...whatever, they still sound pretty good.
However, I see Surface is having a nice sale right now...and I could get a pair of 172CM "No Times" for 200 bucks + ship....now THAT is hard to beat...
I've always liked Surface as a company but never ridden a pair...my brother broke a pair in one day in Windells so that's a little scary...but the 200 dollars is so appealing. Were their 11/12 skis durable? Whatever Surfaces he was riding at Windells was in summer of 2010.
My other question is that Surface says the "Time" series (in which these skis belong) is a "youth inspired" line of skis. Now this may sound kinda dumb...but what are they getting at here? These skis go as big as 182 centimeters.
So I ask NS...what to do...go with old faithful (the T-hall), or try something new (Surfaces)...
Any advice is much appreciated -- Thanks in advance

thall's are more durable and overall will last you longer, from personal experience surface makes bad skis and they snap real quickly, my friend has thalls and he loves them

the 11/12 t hall is a totally different build that the 08/09. so dont expect the same ski. its lighter now, but stiffer than before.
i would personally avoid surface (your windells story says all you need to know).

I'd stick with Armada if you can afford it. I got the AR7 wouldn't trade it for the world. Looks like you want something less stiff though. Thalls sound like a winner for you.

fun, light, hell light, tons of pop, rocker is nice, playful
Either they will last you a season (you ski the snowflex or w.e it is out in buffalo area don't you?) or break within a few run. $200 isnt much not gunna lie so its worth it to me, i also had a great experience with SURFACE's customer service.
But I did Love my old scarface t-halls. What size ski you looking for (176ish?)
try looking in BST you can find deals there cheap. I just picked up some as new as used skis can get for $75 (10/11 t-halls) beyond stoked

I have the rasta thalls so 11/12 and I absolutely love them. So much better on jumps than my ar6s were. The thalls absolutely kill it on rails and still hold their own on the jumps. Plus armada is a dope company.

the thall has changed a lot since the 08-09 model, but i would argue that it's been for the better
for 12/13 the thall core is being slightly changed up yet again, and i think they are the best of the bunch
they're flexible where you want them in the tip n tail, but pretty damn stable underfoot
the "times" series being "youth inspired" is just surface's not-so-clever way of segmenting their product line to dealers in their catalog... all it should mean to you is that it's their park line of skis, they aren't youth models...

my 11/12 surface's have been really durable, I had double times that i used all last season and they are still in really good shape. I think they stepped up the durability with their newer models. I personally love their skis.

good looks -- word up, i used to ski there but it got shut down a couple years ago. pretty fun while it lasted, funny enough i was actually just inquiring today about getting their old rails from them. they've just been sitting there for like 2 years.
i decided to go with the surfaces, thanks everyone for the advice. i just felt that if i break them in less than a year i can get a brand new pair. also, they're supposed to be more durable than previous seasons.

Ok between surface and armada I would go surface for skis of all choices like park, all mountain and pow! First of all I guarantee your brother was riding no times which have been surfaces only major problem with durability. Next surfaces customer surface is beyond amazing, they're hands down the easiest company to work with other than a few other handmade companies like on3p and Folsom. If you said you want double times ( don't remeber) they are going to be much much stiffer than your thalls. No times construction hase also been improved dramatically so no reason to be very worried! As you see I am a supporter of surface and many other brands cough cough... On3p but deffinatly give surface a chance! :)
