What genre or type of music do you think is gunna be big next?
I'm sure EDM will continue to be popular in the US for a while. What I'm starting to see is that 'EDM' is starting to fragment with different genres of dance music gaining their own set of followers. Obviously now House is the most popular, specifically Progressive House, with Dubstep in second, and now Moombahton in third. I don't really see one genre (like Moombahton or something) completely taking over like House has. I foresee Hardstyle, specifically Happy Hardstyle, Drum and Bass, Trap, and Moombahton growing to gain significant followers. I would guess that these House artists will continue to be pretty big for a while.
Of course than these genre's will influence 'pop music' and songs from different genres will break into the 'Top 40'.
I've been seeing Dubstep go more too its 'dub' roots especially with reggae. (ie Make it Bun Dem by Skrillex and the Rusko album 'Songs')
Trap is sick and its such a small genre now but it'll definitely get huge and pull all the kids who are still holding out listening to rap music into the dance music world.
I feel like rap will exist but will pretty much fade out completely with the exception of 'boutique' rappers like Azealia Banks, Death Grips that have something very unique going on (and hipsters love). But as for the whole Big Sean, Tyga, Meek Mills, Rick Ross, etc. I think that'll be dead soon...plus those rappers suck.
I've noticed with pop music that the male versus female thing is getting popular with Somebody that I used to Know and this new Carly Rae/Owl City song. And yea lead female vocal is big again - in dance, indie, lots of shit.
I definitely see more collabs happening in the indie music world since its so easy with digital music nowadays and its big in EDM.
I've noticed country has gotten more popular but fuck that.
