Replying to I'm giving in, timelapsers of NS, crash course me for tonights auroras!

So i realize I know very little about timelapsing because I've never really liked it that much. The only ones I have really enjoyed have been ones of the aurora borealis from alaska/norway/iceland. Now that there is a big chance of them being visible from Maine tonight (I'm south of the 45th parrallel though), I'd like to try and see if I can capture a few good images.

Things I know:
-Avoid as much light pollution as possible. I know facing north from my house there are quite a few miles of forest and no towns in that direction.
-Keep one setting on auto to avoid flickering. I believe it was shutter speed.
-I was planning on shooting with my 15 fisheye @ 2.8 from my dock, but I probably need to get higher elevation to really get a good look northwards? There are trees on either side of the river, and a few houses dotted in the northward direction, so I might be better off heading to a hill in town?
-I don't have an intervalometer for my 5dII, was planning on using something on my macbook. But I fucking forget what program it was. Anyone recall?
