Going to Switzerland tomorrow, what do?

Hi there!

So here's the deal, I'm off to Basel, Switzerland tomorrow for 5 days (flight back to London st 7am on Wednesday, then home to Canada at 13:30).
Why?
- Because I can.
Why from London?
- Finished the Sky NZ Olympic Broadcast studio a week early. So my scheduled flight home has been the 18th from London for awhile now.

So I chose Basel, basically because it was the first Swiss airport to come up, and chose Switzerland just for fun.
My general plan is to hike, tour around, and party. You know the basic stuff.

Anyone have suggestions on where to go?
Anyone live in this lovely little country?

I'm planning on just taking a train, and sleeping in hostels. I don't know anyone there, or know anything. Simple as that.
I went to Auckland last month with no real plan besides show up, and I had a real good time.

So, input would be appreciated. Hopefully someone on here is Swiss and we can meet up.

if you really plan on touring by train or something, making your way to saas fee isn't a bad idea, for one the traintrip through the rhone valley is very beautiful and you'll obviously get to go glacier skiing, but on top of that saas fee is a pretty mountain village that's free of cars and lies in the heart of the alps in what i personally find the most beautiful and impressive region of switserland or the alps in general ....

there are also numerous other activities in saas fee besides the skiing, you won't be bored :)

Thanks guys. Is Saas Fee a nice ski town vibe? I essentially would like a small town feel with some party vibes. London just killed it for me on the whole "big city" thing. I'll probably head to Saas Fee on Saturday and see how I like it. Any more towns? Places to hike or swim?

Interlaken is a pretty sweet home base if you're thinking of doing outdoorsy stuff. Its a hour or so train ride up to the Jungfrau which is the highest observatory in Europe I think - glaciers, ziplining, the most amazing view imaginable.

It's also surrounded by absolutely gnarly hiking everywhere.

the area around saas fee/zermatt is pretty cool for hiking as well, if you're into via ferrata stuff, check out the jagihorn in saas grund (?) it's a pretty neat one !

and i personally really liked the vibe in saas fee ...

if you really like hiking you should go to zermatt, you can hike around the matterhorn which is pretty impressive if you ask me....

saturday is opening day for the glacier park, its gonna be wild. i'm there (cant ride though)

No skiing. Remember, I've been away from Canada for the past two months. On a business trip. This trip is random, unplanned, and incredibly last minute. I just want to hike and party. I mean party. Haven't had anything like that since March

And thank you, I will probably head to those places for a day hike. Saas Fee seems like a good hot spot for me so far. Along with Jungfrau.

Everyone is in saas fee, pros, chillers, everyone. Definetly come here, and hike the glacier i guess.

Doubt you'll be in the area, but there's a hill called Ovorranaz outside of Sillon. It's up above miles of beautiful vineyards. There's an extremely small town called Dugny on the way up. About 4 switchbacks before Dugny, there's a sign that says Le Platz. Go there. Its insane
