A different type of which ski thread

Look i know gear talk is already flooded with which ski threads, but this one is a bit different. I'm practically decided on one of two pairs, but i need to pull the trigger soon and i can't decide based on price and value.

I'm about 5'9" 135 lbs and i ski almost 100% park. the only time i don't ski park is when it snows and i duck into the woods, but this is not a priority. next season will by my 3rd year in park, but i'm ready to progress quickly. I ski about 30 days a year in killington in vermont, but i do plan on going to camp next summer (most likely in whistler). I'm looking for the ski to be able to stay under me when i don't land perfectly on large jumps, and still be playful enough to butter and mess around on the rails (basically what everyone wants in a versatile park ski).

2013 ON3P FRs presale for $500

2012 k2 recoils that i can find online for $300

I have the money to purchase either pair, thanks to a canceled life insurance policy (long story), so it's really all about value. I'd be getting the FRs in 176 and the k2s in 174, and i don't think i'll have to worry about growing out of them. my only hesitation on buying the FRs is that i'm usually good enough to find great deals on my gear. i haven't paid full price for any of my current ski gear except for my jacket, which was a gift. Someone either tell me i'm a total idiot and need to purchase the on3ps now because they're amazing, or that the recoils will be just as fun for me and i don't need to shell out the extra cash.

oh and i currently ride k2s and i was very pleased overall. like i said the only complaint is that they are just too small.

Well, I can't honestly say I've had experience with either of your choices, but I can say I have never read or heard a single piece of negative feedback on any of ON3P's skis. On my old seth's I did have a problem with delamination. So I would go for the ON3P presale.

Exactly, all i'm hearing is amazing things about on3ps in general, especially the FRs.

ON3Ps are solid. K2s are clunky and not too strong for the most part. I'd say go for the FRs

i've heard the recoils have pretty solid durability, and my last pair of k2s held up pretty well, save for extensive topsheet and some sidewall chipping. but thanks, i am leaning toward the FRs.

If it were me, I would get the K2's. They are basically bombproof and are very good skis. I just can't justify spending $500 on park skis. I cringe just thinking about ruining a pair of $500 skis by hitting rails.

Go with Filthy riches. I have also not hear one negative thing about them. If you don't have to worry about growing out of them its better to pull out a little extra cash in my opinion. My experience with K2's are that they are a little too soft for any big jumps, and I feel that a majority of them are pretty heavy.

This is exactly what is holding me back from snapping up the FRs this instant. I make a point never to buy my gear at a high price, as i said. Thanks for the advice.

By your picture it seems like you like LINE. Why not look at last years Cronics if you dont want to spend that much $$$...

honestly, I've heard some bad things about their durability and that they are very stiff. Last year's doesn't have rocker like the other skis i'm considering. Just because my icon says line doesn't mean I need their skis. At one point I was considering the TC skis though...

If you're looking for a rockered ski maybe check out the liberty antigen. I hae the LTEs and theyre super light/durable plus you can find the antigen pretty damn cheap.

I did a few laps on Chronics ast season and I really enjoyed the flex, not overly stiff held up well on jumps but still butterable and fun on rails

how big are you? I'm a fairly short, skinny guy, I don't have a whole lot of weight to throw on the tips of my skis. Maybe I should be looking into the chronics as well
