i dont have a mac which sucks but i am wondering what to get i dont have a set budget because im still working for everything that im getting

build yourself an i5 sandy bridge machine. You'll spend like $900 and it will kick ass

3.3ghz quad core, 8gb ram, a nice mobo and GPU

You could get a much better computer for not much more.

For $1200 I put together this machine.

I7 3820 3.5gHz Quad Core (3.9 Turbo)

16Gb Gskill Ram

Geforce 560 2Gb (the GPU is a big part if you use adobe cs6. This is a basic card but works fine, with adobe)

Asus Extreme 4 mother board.

It works extreamly well with premiere and after effects. My main use is 3d and its very good for this. The only thing Im going to change is replace the geforce card with a quadro.

that was the slight let down, I could only get a 1TB 7200 drive, im going to add a 120Gb SSD soon.

You guys are making me jealous. I wish I wasn't confining myself to the world of laptops for the next couple years :(

Like the guy said above, make sure you get one of the graphics cards that adobe endorses for the mercury engine. I'll give you a link to the list of them.

I'd also recommend getting a couple drives if you can. If I was you, I'd get a somewhat small SSD to run my OS and programs of of and then toss in some other (7200 rpm)drives to edit footage from. WD caviar blacks seem to be the ticket these days. They work in simple RAID 0 and 1 arrays, I'd opt for a RAID 0 if I was you. For backup purposes, an external drive connected via USB 3 should be just fine. If price is an issue, toss in a 1 tb caviar black for all your internal needs and have at it.

As far as RAM goes, you would probably be just fine with 8GB right now, just remember that you will probably want to spring for 16 in the next couple years.

Another idea to consider is opting for dual monitors. I just set up a second monitor, and it makes editing and general computing so much better.

pretty much any nvidia card will work for gpu acceleration. they all have cuda cores

^ not really, only the quadros and Geforce 570,580, 670 and 680 are fully suported. There is a little hack you can do, but I certainly would not go below the 560. and you need at least 1gig Vram so that again rules out quite a few.

literally any new nvidia card. all the new 600 series work, and their list is horribly outdated.
