Lately on NS i've been seeing a lot of threads on religion. While I feel that the majority of NS'ers are Atheistic, I decided to make a thread that focuses instead on Theism; specifically Mormonism.

I think that a huge part of life is not only tolerance but acceptance; and for those of you who are curious or just wanna butt heads feel free to ask questions or discuss. Ill only respond to the questions I feel are serious and will attempt to answer them to the best of my abilities.

my neighbor is a Mormon and some of the kids that I baby sit 7 and under tell me that they are vampires and they can't go out in the sun light and the kids won't play with the Mormon kids

eh thats harsh. the mormons that i know are some of the nicest people i have met. they are genuinely good people. they are devoted to their religion which can bring meaning to people's lives and makes them strive to be a better person

Why do they send people on missions in Utah? When I lived in SLC, I had mormon missionaries come to my door.

Apparently Mitt Romney baptised his dead father-in-law in 1993. His father in-law was a well known atheist. Is this proxy baptism a legitimate practice? It seems fundamentally wrong and hard to understand.....

There is also another part in the same book where a manse stays with in Utah talks about the troubles of polygamy, it's pretty fcking funny. Can't seem to find it though.

most religions have some pretty silly beliefs. jonah and the whale. noah's ark. 40 virgins in the afterlife (that one might make the most sense). mormons get pretty routinely, even main stream-ly made fun of, or at least poked fun at, for some of their more esoteric beliefs; the so-called "magic underwear,"springs to mind. my question/ thought is, do u think theres a double standard in picking out such "weird" minutea, out of what by all appearences is just one mpre

I'm a Non-Mormon who lives in Utah with a bunch of Mormon friends. This is called baptisms for the dead and it is done in the Temple. They take names of the deceased and baptize them into the church. It's pretty messed up in my opinion, but it still happens.

You need to research more.

1st. The LDS church was not responsible for the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Unlike Abraham Lincoln, who was directly responsible for the bear river massacre. Lets compare the two.

John D. Lee was tried and executed for the crime. Every Mormon agrees it was a crime and a tragedy. Was anyone ever tried and executed for killing Mormons?

Col. Conner was treated like a hero and promoted, for killing some 400 Shoshone. Keep in mind this was under the direct order of Abraham Lincoln to help take care of the "Shoshone problem." Do you know about the Bear River Massacre?

2nd. The birthplace of The Human Genome Project was in Alta, Utah and you could only hope to study genetics at BYU.

But in my books Mormons are fine people. We all have short comings and stuff, right. Go and meet a mormon get to know them be their friend see what they are about and don't freak out because they don't practice everything they preach, Mormons aren't angels nor should they think they are...
Probs to OP for putting himself out there in the inevitable wake of a beating that was and is guaranteed in the creation of his thread. And props to the people with sincere question that asked to gain an understanding of this guy instead of just trying to make him look like a silly religious ass...

Felt bad for Mika having to wear those glasses tonight after DeAndre Kane eye gouged him in the ISU game.  Hes awesome I really like this years Cougar team.  They are a lot of fun to watch.  I love BYU and love skiing in Utah so I like Mormons.  Good religion this worlds going to hell we need more good people like you God bless.


I got big love for BYU football and hoops F the utes.


But for the record you are a bad mormon and disgrace to your religion if you don't do polygamy.  Brigham Young would be ashamed of any of you who don't have multiple wives.  Polygamos rights need to be looked upon like gay rights its bullshit a man in Utah can't have as many wives as he can afford.

Utah is super anti drug because of mormons and wont even sell clean needles at the pharmacies. If thats just utah then fuck utah, if its the mormons behind that then fuck mormons and their stupid low alcohol beer

Yea.  Just towel the doors in your mariott hotel room when in utah when your burning, don't speed, dont smoke on the chairlifts cause you will encounter an asshole, an that should be it.


I'd say 20% of Utah residents are pricks who deserve to be spat on.  80% are fine.  And there is plenty of nice mormons.


I burned a blunt in my hotel room 10+ years ago the courtyard mariott near the road up to AltaBird (circa 2004 when my Patriots were bad ass and raped everyone and Brady wasn't that good he was just clutch as fuck I couldn't watch games without firing one up out of respect I fuckin miss those days) and its the only time hotel staff yelled at me.  Luckily my dad still smoked cigs at the time and I was able to blame it on him.

But I could never live with that behavior Utahs a great place to visit just don't get caugt over a few days and your fine but its a shitty place to live (unless your a square ass 15 year old who doesn't plan on doing stuff teenagers do.)

Why do peopel think they can control other people and keep them from smoking a plant?  I think cops who arrest people for weed are asking for a bullet to the back of the head, and I am not a cop hater just they are no differnt than Nazis sending Jews to the gas chambers.

I gotta take a greyhound there on Monday.  Im gonna be getting fucked up on it Im worried I'll get chucked off in Wendover cause I'll be bombed by then.

And, why do you believe if you are good on Earth you will be given your own planet that you are the God of?
Lot of weird shit goes on in Mormon land.
Why do they kick out the younger males in small mormon communities so the old men can take all the younger women?
