Diving for golfballs

Anyone on NS have experience diving for golf balls at courses/links? I'm planning on going tomorrow night and am stoked to say the least! Any tips or advice is appreciated :)

bring a good underwater flashlight, and a really fine-mesh net. should do you well.

go at dusk, around 6ish.  You wont be bothered that way and sell some in the parking lot the next day, be swift cause the club house will be pissed.

sometimes at the beach I hit golfballs in to the water and go dive for them. I don't usually find them.

Get earplugs, preferably the sweet wax ones. Don't pee in the water. Remember how much goose shit is in there... You will probably get chiggers, so try to clean off immediately and throw away everything you were wearing

my grandpa invented this like vacuum rolling machine thingy that goes along the bottom and picks all the balls up. My dad used to go out at night dressed in all black and get a shit load while staying dry. needless to say he used golf balls as currency for years

Mostly for the excitement. Doing stupid stuff like this helps keep life interesting and of course makes for some good memories down the road. We have almost no idea what were getting into but that's half the fun!

ive never had a problem with it. i've gone diving in many golf course ponds/lakes - mainly scuba diving jobs to unclog drains, clean drains,etc.,

I did it when i was in like grade 7 with a friend in the broad daylight. got hundreds of balls, also got kicked out on the pond eventually, also had a leech on my leg when i went home and showered. other than that, i'd say it was worth it. never paying for golf balls again haha

I came into this thread looking for scuba diving advice. I thought it was "diving for goofballs." Not too disappointed in what it actually is though. I'd suggest deep forest bug spray.

my best friends parents built a 9 hole golf course in 95 sold it 9 years later and it was made into an 18 hole course.

but back when it was theirs my buddy and I would dive the two ponds for golf balls all the time, keep the average ones for our selves and then clean the nice ones and his parents would flip em in the club house.

advice...good pair of goggles, underwater light, a net to hold them in....and take a good shower when you are done.

Good luck but be careful! Ponds can be polluted with fertilizer and other nasty things, so try not to drink the water...when my dad was in highschool he used to dive for golfballs every summer and he always made a really good profit, but he started to get sick and came down with meningitis (not fun) and almost died. So be careful.

when i worked as an ass. superintendent a group of guys with 4 wheeler's and a wrench system used to pay us to rack our ponds. honestly for as much trouble as it's worth, i'd just look in the woods at a few different courses. i could fill buckets in a matter of minutes just knowing where to look.

People do this at the golf course I work at at least three times a week. They said that smaller courses like par 3's and pitching' puts will allow them to do it for free but then the higher end golf courses charge them 20 cents a ball mainly for the time being in the ponds and then they turn around and sell them for a dollar. Bring many buckets and mesh bags they get over 3000 in two hours. Ask for or buy a cart as well moving those balls would be hand would suck.

I was assuming this was being done under the radar. Sry, am theef. A 5 gallon bucket of golf balls is not heavy btw. Unless you take the bucket into the water, in which case I request you change your methods please thanks good day

In my area it's considered theft, because the golf course owns the balls immediately after they hit the pond. You'll get kicked off the course for fishing your own ball out when its by the edge. True story.

so lets say i only golf about once a year and dont give a shit about what type of ball im using. then, a friend and i decide to go diving for balls and acquire 1000 balls ranging from nice to ok (we have a nice club 2 miles from us). What would be the best way to make the best buck quickly? dont have time to do individual sales

Used sporting goods stores like "play it again sports" etc. Sell used balls by 12's and 50's. You can take them in there. Also helps if you can get 12 of the same type of ball.

yup if you could get 12 of the same ball you can sell em pretty well, but if you just have a misc bunch play it again would work, since you didn't pay for em what ever you get is profit.

but say you get 12 titleist prov 1's or taylormade pentas (which you could find a lot of depending on the course) clean em up and if they are in good condition, you could sell 12 for 25 bucks easy...seeing as 12 prov 1s are usually 45 - 55 bucks depending where you are.
