Tennis is pretty fun, been playing on my schools team for about 3 years now. Gotten pretty good I suppose. I don't really buy rackets though like just shitty 20 dollar ones, now I'm using like an ARC racket my friend stole from the school haha. Notsure what's more fun though singles or doubles I play both quit a bit.

I play sometimes, but I've never played competitively and I'm not that good, still fun though. Plus I like giving my GF a reason to wear tiny tight shorts.

I'm much better at dubs than singles, got to the state HS tourney for it in NH last year as our team's #2 pair. Captained/coached this year since I tore my ACL/MCL, looking forward to playing again in a month or two. Too bad Colby has a filthy team. Club, maybe? Also inb4 lanks.

I don't play competitively anymore, but I still play fairly often. Played varsity singles 4 years in high school and then one year in college before I quit to focus more on school instead of traveling every weekend for matches. I use Head Radicals (best racquets ever made) with 2 layers of Wilson overgrip and currently am rocking some Lacoste shoes, which are fucking amazing. Wilson makes some comfy, light shoes as well. I'm typically a baseline power hitter, but every once in a while I'll switch it up and get to the net. Also, my ad side kick serve will fuck your day up if you're a righty.

Well I'm a lefty sooooooo BRING IT BITCH. Lolololol.

Anyways, I'll contribute to my own thread. Currently rocking Babolat Pure Storm GT's with stock strings (their actually pretty baller) and a bright green Wilson overgrip. Then I have some Barricades. Now enough with being a gear whore.

I play mainly from the baseline and hit the ball hard. That's my forte, but I'm a proficient volleyer when the circumstance requires net play. I spin my second serve so that it bounces the opposite way of travel. (there's a name for that but I don't know it). Hoping to be able to play a little bit this summer since I recently broke my ankle.

I have been playing tennis since i was 10 but i have been playing competitively for almost 5 years. I play with a wilson six one one hundred prostaff. I love such a sick racket. awesome control power and spin

I just graduated high school but I played all through high school. I definitely wasn't the best because I didn't play year round like some people on my team. I really didn't commit much time to tennis at all outside of tennis season because I always had other sports going on but I held my own against the more serious teammates regardless. Our coach always had me playing mixed doubles, I guess I work well with the girls or something. I loved my Pure Drive Roddick + strung with Big Banger and would definitely recommend the setup to anyone looking to add a few mph's to their serve.

Which radicals? I've used I.radicals and micro gels and didn't really like them at all. Preferred the extreme's. I play with Dunlop Jonny mcenroes or I have prince o3 tours for teaching. Anybody string in here? Gmart where you at buddy

I currently play with a dunlop 3g with prince tour blend. Have the mains at 60 crosses at 58. It's ok, it's working but I think there might be some other options for me. Never been that great, never played competitively just havin fun. I've been feeling my way through some other rackets, kinda like the aero pro drive but also picked up a buddy's kfactor 6.1 95 strung with big banger and revenge and actually looked good. But we only hit a few rally's. What up brad lol. Yea I string, best and worst decision i've made at my shop. Guy's string can change the way your racket feels so if anyone's looking for some changes just post up and I'll give you the best advice to my knowledge. Got a match later tonight with my manager, doubles alll dayyyyy! haha, you will find me at the net, all 6 foot 4 inches baby haha, you better lob it pretty damn high!!

I guess I'll actually talk about my gear and style, since that's what everybody is doing. I've been playing with a wilson K.Six-1 for a few years with standard strings, 55 tension both ways. I've always used Wilson shoes. Stylistically, I'm a solid baseline player but I get most of my points off transition shots. If I'm being honest my actual net game isn't great, but I'd say I'm smart enough to know when coming in is risky and I haven't done enough to do so. I don't have an overly powerful first serve, but I can locate it pretty well to a player's weak side. There's not a huge drop off to my second serve, and I can locate it nicely as well.

Gmart.. I'm looking for softer strings. Im playing with prince duraflex synthetic gut. A guy just sent me a bunch of gamma 16g synthetic gut, have you strung with this before? Im wondering which is softer on the elbow 16 or 17. I'm looking for a reel so what are the good deals?

well psg is pretty soft unless you have it strung tight. We dont carry gamma synthetic, we use gamma tnt and for the most part we use 17. 16 means the strings thicker, thus making it more durable but if your not a string breaker go with 17, it bites the ball much better and if you really wanna play with something that will spin the ball check out an 18. As for you elbow, neither should really hurt your elbow, if they were polyesters then yea I could see it but you shouldn't feel that big a difference between the two. Just playability. If you want to try a polyester I would give RPM 17 Team (not blast) because it is a softer polyester. But id try out your synthetics then your polyesters. And if you want more feel string it about 3 or 4 pounds above mid tension on the frame. If you want more pop, but you lose feel, string it 3 or 4 pounds lower than mid tension. And a pound or two your can't tell the difference, it takes 3 or 4, 4 to play it safe and know you made a change.

I play with the head extreme pro! Such a great raquet, although if I had the choice to go with a new one I would go with th Wilson juice blx! Lol I have a tournament to go to right now actually! Wish me luck NS!

I don't know shit about strings haha so could you help me out? I'm 5'8" 145 lbs. and have a fast/hard swing. I often clear the baseline so something that helped incorporate more spin into the shot would be ideal. I'm rocking a Babolat Pure Storm GT, 98 sq. inches. I'll be just training until the spring, then I'll start competing. Thanks

The dunlops I play with are similar (98in) and I've been loving the prince duraflex synthetic gut. Synthetic gut is te way to go IMO. Soft good feel and more durable/stays tighter longer than real gut. Plus half the cost. Listen to Gmart dude knows his stuff. Ps Gmart I got an invite to the usopen this year will you be aroun there in September?

I fucking love tennis. Been playing for a while but just started playing legitimately on my schools team this spring and quit track. Best decision of my life. I'm a big fan of dubs because I like pushing net and it's obviously easier in dubs.

^ I broke some racquets and needs some in a pinch so I posted saying I would trade a lohi for racquets an some specific models. Kids sprinted to their garage to see get pics of 20 year old kids racquets lol. I did end up getting an o3 tour from Gmart though so booyah. Good luck at carnagie Melon that's awesome dude.

by clear the baseline u mean u hit em just long? if so try a string at higher tension. The lower the tension the more trampoline effect u get so the more power. The tighter the more feel you get. Stay the fuck away from polyesters, the ball explodes off polyesters. If you do want to try a poly do a hybrid. Meaning your main strings are poly ur cross strings are synthetic. I would try like an ultimate duo from wilson. And string the crosses about 2 or 3 pounds less than the mains. But what I advise for you right now would be like an NXT 16 or 17. The 17 will give you more feel but you lose durability as stated in an above post. If you break strings do NXT 16, in my shop it runs about 43 bucks but I live around rich people so that could change in your local shop. Any questions shoot me a pm. Also ur height and weight have little to do with string choice. more for racket choice.

also thinking about getting rid of my dunlop 3g if anyones interested. It's a solid ass racket, but I hit way better with a pure drive. Its 98 square inch head. About 10.8 ounces unstrung. I currently have prince tour blend in there at 60 lbs and 58 lbs on the crosses. Shoot me an offer? just restrung it like 2 or 3 weeks ago so its fresh string. (take note that you can't get tour blend anymore since prince went bankrupt. They aint shipping nothing out anymore period, or at least not to my shop lol)

Yeah i've been playing for a while. Played V-Squad in highschool, I don't really play that much now unfortunately. I'm a lot better at doubles than singles. I will lose to baseline bombers. I love the net though, volleys are my shit. I used to play with the Prince o3 white, then I graduated to the Wilson six-one. I string my own, I have a small table-top personal stringer, I've fucked with all kinds of strings, from cheapo to pretty nice ones. I like Prince pro blend right now. I wear the Prince T10 and I hope they never stop making them because they are great!

Can we talk about some players?
I like Fed way more than Rafa, his style is much cleaner. That said, I'm a little tired of Fed. I appreciate the beauty of his strokes, and his excellent work ethic, as well as his level head. I just feel that he has been at the top for a while now, and it is time for someone else to step up. I think that person should be Novak Djokovic. He has the skill and work ethic to be the best, with the personable style that tennis needs. While Fed is classy and composed, I think the game needs a more 'youthful' funny-guy to get the game to a larger public. I also really like Murray, especially after his most recent performance at Wimbledon. Who do you guys think will be the next Great?

I don't think we know yet. At least I haven't seen them. Murray is getting stronger and djo had an unreal season but the bottom line is fed is number one for a reason. I don't think he should let someone else step up to the plate because he's the goat. If someone else wants to play at the top I think they need to take it from him. Also start stocking up on shoes because prince just went under. I'm pissed I need some string ASAP.

o, k i just wanted to make sure u tried it because most people go from tnt to nxt. I like tnt 17 man we put it in like 7/10 rackets that we string and I'm not really looking for trades because I think I might try and pick up a pure drive roddick it's just a hair heavier. But i'd trade it for ski shit I guess. I do need some bindings

Strung my first three racquets this week. o3 white, o3 tour and a volkl dnx8. All went pretty smoothly. The o3 tour gave me some trouble though because you have to have a certain side up or the cross threads don't work at all. Luckily the stringer i was on had a break so the ports didn't really give me trouble. Thanks for the tips gmart btw. doing a few more saturday I'm pumped, hoping to get it down to under an hour.

haha you will man. I did 3 aero pro drives with RPM 17 in like an hour and 10 min. You'll be good. The more you string, the faster you become. The speed ports have a short side, sometimes you learn that when you see the holes dont line up. But for the most part they frames say SHORT SIDE on them by where they say TIE OFF KNOT. welcome to hell! no it aint that bad, just gets boring sometimes. Racket after racket after racket. but congrats dude! glad it all went smoooveeee.

yeah o3 took forever just because I had to use the break. Im doing my 3 mcenroes and another o3 saturday. Im hoping to have them all done in less than 3 hours.


On a side note, who is going to the us open? anyone wanna meet up there? My coach should be able to introduce us to some pros and old pros, def gonna be a good time.

Used to go to camps a few years ago. Got rather decent at it but haven't played in a while. If I had a court near me and people to play I would probably do it more often. On another note while mowing lawns at foreclosed homes the other day I found this ancient Racquet From the 50's In one of the yards (along with 200 feet of hose and a rain gutter in a tree). I almost kept it but it accidentally got mixed in with the trash and we dumped it.

haha. Wish I could do that, cash rules man. I don't mind stringing like three or four rackets a day but the other day we had 18 strung in one day. were only open 10-6 . Thats 2 rackets every hour. Easily do-able but annoying lol. still looking to get rid of my dunlop 300. Open to trades or $$ (like the way the prostaff 100 plays)

Bumpin it with a question:

My soccer season just ended, and I'm gonna start hitting the ball again in about a week. However, I need some new shoes. I found some Barricade 7.0's for $90 that I'm considering, but I also like the Babolat V-Pro All Court that is identical in price.

I have no experience with either of these shoes. I'm playing V-Squad high school this spring, and I'm gonna be playing on the days that my mountain's closed in the winter. I've heard the Barricades are among the best on the market, but Babolat's a ballin-ass company.
