Not gonna wear waders. I'll be doing this in the Delaware Bay very close to the ocean, just around the point of cape helopen delaware. I'm hoping this well lead to a mostly sandy bottom that isn't too quicksandish, as I'm planning on flyfishing in this area as well and that sounds like it sucks.
Is a rake needed or can you just toe locate as I've heard that too.
clam rake sure helps. also, it does take a touch since the prongs on the rake can puncture the shell of the clam, especially if they are smaller. otherwise, its pretty easy and fun. and damn do they taste good out of the ocean. im not sure about where you are, but you might quickly research some of the other mollusks there, as you can make a pretty tasty little boil if you know what you are looking for. I used to do clams, mussels, oysters, steamers mmmm, and razors too if I could catch em.
Will do, I got a little more research to look up before I go down anyway. Right now I'd be happy with crabs and clams though. Never had a clam straight out of the ocean so I'm hoping I score something.
We used to net blue crab too and throw em right in the pot also after cleaning them. I believe I caught one that was like 1/4 inch short of the record? Like 8 inches point to point or something? That was a long time ago though. Have fun and good luck!
