I rode a pair of line master minds (until they snapped) and loved them because of their super flexy and fun feel. i just recently purchased a pair of Surface Double Times and took them on my summer jib. The double times proved to be alot stiffer, and im not sure im diggin it. Im taking them up to whistler in a few days so we'll see how they take to the snow.
So what kind of skis do you prefer? Stiff or flexy and why?
Personally, flexy. Like noodles. I don't care if I'm completely out of control on big jumps I have more fun dicking around with butters n stuff. I'm on a really stiff pair, and won some double times (which are stiff as shit) so most likely going back to noodles sometime soon.
How did the double times work for you? Because yuor style (just dicking around) sounds very similar to mine. i just Do stupid stuff an rails and what not but i dont know how the double times will do that as well as the master minds. What did you find?
Well I haven't mounted them yet, only have one pair of bindings so trying to destroy the other pair first. The double times are a little stiffer than the ones I'm on right now, but the ones I'm on are still really stiff. They're fun, but not for what I like to do.
The double times will be enjoyable to ride, but if you like butters and stupid shit riding, the double times probably aren't your best bet.
i had a pair of no times that snapped (of course) and they were way too soft. had pop and were fun, but they couldn't charge worth shit and they didn't handle the ungroomed washington chunder well at all.
I had a pair of alpha 2's - loved em and they were stiffer, but still had a great snappy flex that buttered if you put muscle into it.
The stiff volkls are nice for jumps, but they don't build anything bigger than 45 or 50 feet around me so the invaders are just more fun to ski north carolina slush on.
Well I certainly feel more confident skiing on a softer ski for the most part I had surface no times and nine lives and loved them until they snapped. I got the halos (10cm bigger I might had) and found them much less enjoyable to play around with but way less scary to hit bigger jumps and rails with. Ideally I would have 2 or 3 different park skis but im no millionaire. And to the OP you will adjust and enjoy a stiffer ski but it takes time. Small tricks will take more effort.
I also think it depends on how much you ski. If you ski several times a week you would be better off getting a stiffer ski as you will likely feel more confident on your skis, where as if you;re limited to weekend warrior stick with something soft that makes you feel like a rockstar.
Soft nose and tail and a stiff-ish mid for me i like having that bit of give for when things dont go perfect and for messing about but with the stiff-ish mid it still gets business sorted when the time calls. For the record im on some old school 05/06 rossi scratch fs sprayers. I do love the playfulness of my line blends though for when theres some pow about.
I rode DT's last season and i loved them. They are stiff when your first get them but they loosen up fairly fast. I really like how there a little fat cause you can still have fun with them on a pow day.
love my '12 K2 domains. they are about a 6 or so with 10 being stiff as shit and 1 being a noodle. im 185lbs so i can flex them pretty easily but they held up really well on the 55footer we had this year. also stupendous on rails i might add
Thats exactly what i wanted to hear. i was nervous about them being really stiff cuz i love just buttering around, just cruisin, but they sound like they'll be fun.
