Has FD fallen off ?

K so we know Wallish didnt, but it seems like popularity is at an all time low for first drop. they double posted the suit picker 2 weeks apart and got about 10 replies total in the 2 threads. The have enough overstock to say "we are re releasing certain models from last year to help give more color options" since the zip off arms dont work on old vs new jackets, we know its just old stock.

what happened ?

Last Friday?
Summer?
First Drop didnt make skis?
Waterproofing matters ?
Quality Matters ?
Recession?

any help would be great ! +k ns !

I think FD is dope.. considering i got a good pair of pants and the most comfortable jacket i've ever worn for a total of $255. thats a steal for the quality they make… i don't know if everyone hating on FD has tried their products first hand or just basing it off what they hear and just assume cheap prices = cheap products… but i love my FD jacket and pants and have no regret in my purchase. true, the V4 has hardly any colors and they aren't very appealing.. but they made a good move at keeping the V3 going too because that what i have and i love it.. keep up the good work FD

If you're looking to get first drop (or liberty skis) in the uk go to www.urbanventura.co.uk they are a uk supplier and the prices are similar to that on the fdwear site, they usually do the same deals and the shipping is way cheaper than the main site. good for the rest of europe aswell.

its not that the waterproofing and breathability rating mean nothing its that they aren't very applicable to real life. all tests to give the rating are done by the companies who make the materials so aren't independent, they aren't standardised to all companies so 20k from one company may be different to another which brings me on to the numbers. the 20ks etc of waterproofing are a measure of the static column of water that can be placed on the material (not the garment) before it gives way and lets water through, but there are other tests which they can do which might give different results (and the production company are obviously going to pick the one which gives them the highest rating, especially with breathability ratings). Like i said the numbers don't apply to the garment of clothing but the materials so the materials that your jacket might be what they say, but that might not be what you get, especially with things like seams which can have much lower rating due to the bonding of the materials. as a general rule a 20k/20k jacket will probably be more breathable and waterproof than a 10k/10k but i wouldnt decide solely on that. you have to take other things into account, like seams, the materials on the inside of the jacket, the weight and the insulation as you might feel like you are wetter in a 20k jacket with less insulation than a 15k with more just because you are acctually colder. sorry for such a long double post but i felt it needed clarified

Have you owned any of the v3 or demo'd it to back up your statement? I'm guessing no because it's always the "my friend owned FD" arguement, or more commonly I have no idea what I'm talking about so I'll just hate too. I can name a bunch of ski companies I think are garbage, but if I've never tested them out myself there is no validity to the statement.

There are as much people hating on fd, as people butthurt form the hate.

I don't like fd for the fact that they are a company with regular quality and boring designs, nothing new to the market. When fd came out for the first time, the suit was fresh as fuck, but now it is getting boring, 2 years of the same design, with the same colors.

cant say anything about the quality of the product but the look of there stuff is pretty ridiculous. whats up with the millions of zippers and all the doofy colored geometric shapes on the outerwear. i personally would never where the stuff, if i wanted to look like a clown id wear size 40md boots

nope. i wouldn't buy first drop because it looks retarded. I'm not sure where you go to demo ski clothes... please enlighten me.

i don't really give a shit about what people wear. if you want to dress like a kook go ahead and be the laughing stock of the rest of the mountain. but for god's sake keep it to yourself. don't go mouthing off on forums talking about how rad your outerwear is.

With daddy's (or mommy's or grandmama's or granddaddy's, I really don't know) money floating FD I doubt they're going anywhere soon.

I mean 9thward is still around and that's the same situation: bad product, poor business decisions, low sales... but they're still alive... for now.

^^^Was on mobile, not demo'd like you do skis from a skis shop... Tried it on, checked out features, wore your buddies coat for a couple runs. FD, Saga, Orage, Sessions (NS collab) and many more all have a clown suit option. The point is if you don't like it why go on the thread just to say you hate it or do so because the post before you did. I agree, I could give a shit what anyone wears and would hope nsers don't dress a certain way just to fit in.

I don't like fd because their shit looks ridiculous. The sizing first of all is just not my style, it is huge and baggy which frankly the only people who would wear that are 12 year olds trying to look like hood rats. Think about it, if the stuff actually looked good more pros would climb on their sponsorship train.

Second the color ways look like. whoever made them had just eaten a whole sheet of lsd or they act like 12 year olds (which certainly seems to be david lesh's style).

Finally, the customization options are totally cancelled out for me because of the look, and if you think about it there really aren't that many options because there is only one style of outerwear.

I didn't climb on the fd bandwagon, I made my own then joined the fleet.

I personally don't like FD. The reason I don't like their stuff is because it's too flashy for my taste, and a bit too baggy. Plus, David Lesh is a tool, but that alone wouldn't make me dislike a company.

If you don't care what people wear then why would you be calling them kooks for wearing FD? Or laughing at them in general, people can wear what they want, yes, but if you keep calling them names or making fun of them for dressing a certain way they will more than likely try to "fit in", thus creating the "problem" of trend-whores. And from the sounds of it no one seems to like them even if they (you) aided in the creation.

Trends are trends for a reason. Because the shit looks cool and so therefore people like it. Who gives a shit if you're being a trendwhore at least you think you look cool and hey, other people do too. If you wear First Drop and think that you look cool then good for you but 99% of everybody else is going to look at you like a fucking goombah so don't get mad when they hate, you signed yourself up for it

Don't get me wrong I love their stupid edits but the image they portray is definitely not one I want myself to be associated with.  Guns and rap music have NOTHING to do with skiing thus I'll be buying TREW for many years to come.

Same reason I don't buy 9thward skis.

You do realize atomic and head have both done more for the sport than FD could ever hope to do.  CORPORATIONS MAAAAAAAAAN, THEY RUIN EVERYTHING BRO.

Yeah, but aren't you from the midwest? I'm sure the quality is fine for skiing park all day.

That being said, if you want to do REAL skiing on REAL mountains...FD doesn't hold up (from every person I've known who has had it and skied pow).

As someone who DOES ride "real" snow and "real" mountains in Utah, and averages over 100 days a year, my FD has held up flawlessly.

I've purchased some pants from them, and really was not impressed by their quality and just craftsmanship. And they just seem like a bunch of juvenile guys that like to fuck with other people.

On the other hand bought a nice Saga jacket, couldn't ask for more. Also everything about Saga just seemed more professional. You never see Saga employees trolling kids here on NS. When it comes down to it, I'm going to buy from the company I can rely on.

Come ride Tahoe or the PNW when you have rain at the bottom of the lift and pow at the top.

I haven't ridden any FD shit in those kinds of conditions but UTAH snow has very low moisture content compared to us out here on the west coast.

I'm not saying it can or it can't but I could wear 10k shit in utah and be fine 99.99999999999% of the season.  NOT the case in tahoe....Gortex FO LYFE.

I actually rode Big Sky last season for a week in some of the heaviest and wettest snow I've ever ridden in, including both Tahoe and PNW. As well as the last week Brighton was open, it rained every single day. My gloves, goggles, and hat were soaked, but my body stayed completely dry. I'll continue to stand behind FD 100%. Unlike most hate on here, I actually have 1st hand experience and many many days in all types of conditions with their outerwear.
