yo ucant ask the community for good songs thats stupid a good song is a good song and finding without "asking people on ur page" is part of making it a tight edit

zac i thought the edit was tight! the song fit the tempo of the edit really well but i can see what people are saying when they say a lot of your edits "feel" similar with similar angles, etc. bump out of your comfort zone, try something new, it could be fun and i bet (even you) will learn a thing or two!

Generally I would agree with what you're saying here, but I don't think it's appropriate in this situation.

I'm all for the "make art for yourself, not others" mentality, but you have to keep in mind that this isn't just an edit that Zac is making for fun. This is a Momentum promotional video, so you have to look at it and ask yourself "What could make this advertisement more effective?"

So yes, while normally Zac shouldn't make changes to his style simply because others tell him to, this scenario is a bit different. People are offering some good advice: faster pace, shorter intro interviews, etc. These are all things that are essentially proven techniques in advertising to hold a viewer's interest and appeal to a broader audience. A fast-paced edit is definitely something that clashes with Zac's smooth, slower-paced style, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't do it, especially considering his goal is to maximize views and promote the camp in the most effective way possible.

i have always really enjoyeed your edits, the song usually fits well for the type of skiing and sets a good mood, the colouring looks perfect

Your first mistake was asking for artistic direction from skiers. All you're going to get are people requesting changes that tailor to content and nothing else ("cuts are bad. Prove he actually landed it. Derp").

Seriously though, at some point you gotta say "fuck everyone" and do what pleases you. Otherwise you're a whore, for lack of a better term.

I think you are right too, I wasn't actually talking about this particular video, just in respect to zac's future personal endeavors. And yes, serving his client's needs should be his #1 priority in the present situation.

I like this. A lot.

But for zac, the only thing that phased me was the length of the intro. Sure, woodsy has a cool accent, but people still will judge how good momentum is based on the skiing that happens there, not what a coach has to say about the lane. But honestly there are so few decent edits that have ever been filmed at momentum (all the good ones seem to be from hood), I'd say this is probably the best. I like the clean style in your edits. Easy to watch.

And I'll agree on the song. It was overplayed years ago, before it was even used in ski edits. It's risky to use a song that people have heard a bunch before and associated with things other than the edit you're using it for. If you're desperate enough to ask for music suggestions, you should check out that thread from a day or two ago asking how to find music for edits. Some pretty good places to find unused music are mentioned in there.

yeah i haven't even had a chance to watch this edit yet so I can't critique, but whenever I see you posting on your facebook fanpage that you'll send someone stickers if you end up choosing whatever song they posted for an edit.. i just dont get it!!

i know its important not to make an edit based solely off the music, but I feel that for me at least, when Im the dude from the beginning of the project to the end, I like to choose my own song. when you have more of a connection to the song, even if you choose it before hand and bump it all day up at the mtn while filming, you get ideas for shots (and even cuts you might want to do which bases the shots you might get) that perfectly coincide with the feel of the song.

once i get some highspeed, ill watch the edit !

i actually liked the edit overall, i thought the colors were good

although it is like most of your other edits, i am still amazed at the smoothness of the glidecam

iv heard the song before in a ski edit, but do like the like it

finally watched it.

AWFUL song choice, just because its so played and has been in so many edits / mashups. i muted your video and played some tracks of my own.

loved the shots, all really smooth- almost too smooth haha. I think it would be cool to throw in some super wide shots, notably on rails, if you have access to a wide lens. i just wanna see some shots right up close, with strong, loud sounds of the skis grinding the rails.

colors were very consistent.

I will say I agree with alot of the points people have been making, but overall it was still entertaining, the song is def overused, but I think it kinda worked. The main thing I wanted to say is props for taking the criticism (some a little harsh) like a man! I have seen too many people post edits on here to be critiqued and then freak out and go into defensive mode. After being in film school I have learned that being able to take harsh criticism is key in this industry! Keep it up dood

I want to see more lines with more than one feature in them. This goes for everybody in general. A lot of edits now are just a jumble of single feature tricks. I think lines look really cool even if they're not insanely technical tricks on every feature
