Replying to Vesting winter jackets help?

I am strongly considering vesting one of the jackets I have.

There are vents under the armpits which is my main concern on how I could do this without just ruining the jacket.

So my question is does anyone know how to vest a coat with vents under the armpits (and its not a down jacket) correctly without ruining the coat?
