When skiings over my favorite acticity is Mountain biking and im looking for a new one what are some good mountain bikes for a price for around $675?

Check out Fezzari.com. I just bought a bike there and its been great. They also have pretty sweet bikes in your price range.

new bikes are sweet but unless you've got a ton of cash, used is the way to go. just like cars as soon as they're 'off the lot' they lose a lot of price value (though not quite as much as cars), but are by no means as devalued in quality unless they're totally beat to shit.

do some research and check around; you'll eventually find out what you're looking for in a bike and find a good bike for the right price

definitely the pinkbike buysell, and check your local craigslist as well.

What I think a lot of people don't realize about mountain biking especially downhill mountain biking is there is WAY more to it than just purchasing the bike.

I raced MSC Circuits for two seasons and parts will break...shit just happens it's unavoidable.  You will need to replace your tires constantly which go for about $50 a pop, tubes will need to be replaced, forks will need constant maintenance, shifters, drive train, I mean everything.

And not to mention the cheaper you go on price the faster the parts will break.  I don't want to discourage you from getting into an AMAZING sport I love the hell out of my bike, but having gone through tons and tons of personal frustration with cash you need to think of your bike as an investment.

I put well over 6 grand into my bicycle and can no longer afford to maintain it.  Just be ready to spend a lot more money than 700 bucks to keep a bike up and running.

Yes I already have a mountain bike and I payed like $300 dollars on repairs this year but I need a new bike because my current bike is too small.

$675 will not get you a good downhill bike if you are a good downhill rider. If you go hard it will fall apart on you. Unless you pick up a used bike from Pinkbike. Good custom DH's cost up to 3K-4K

you could buy a mongoose with rst forks and tectro brakes, but if you value you life then you wold save a little more and find a good deal on craigslist list.

maybe i'm a little negative, but if you only have $675, try to find another sport. if you really want to get into mountain biking, and this is x100 for downhill, you pretty much need to have either a ton of money or a small income which you spend on nothing but your bike. bikes are fucking expensive if you want them to do what they're supposed to, and even when they're doing that they still break.

and if your hydraulic brakes aren't working, spend the 20 bucks and take them to a shop, save yourself the time, money and grief.

if you can spend $1000 you can get a decent hardtail cross-country bike, or a dirt jumper, but if you are looking for a nice full suspension downhill or freeride bike you will need to spend at least a couple grand

Means you need to bleed them.  Get a bleed kit, or take them to your shop.  I would advise taking it to your shop since your asking these questions but it is possible to do it on your own.

just a little knowledge if you care.  When you squeeze your brake lever fluid is forced down the break line and engages the pistons which in turn tighten your pads.  When air gets trapped in your break line the pistons no longer engage.  It is possible you pinched a line too.

If I were you I would go to one of the mountains that has rentals and by ones of the rental bikes I got one at mount snow for 750 and I've had way too much fun with it

I would suggest building a bike by buying used parts off pinkbike. Or buy used you can get such a better bike for your money.

this. it doesnt matter how much you spend, but mountain biking is the best. and when it comes to bikes, you generally get what you pay for, just to keep in mind.

from experience, start off on a hardtail to get a feel for the sport. The downhilling rule of thumb is spend three years on a hardtail, then get a proper bike and it will be amazing. I did this, and now i'm running over 7 grand in biking gear.

$675 will get you a starter downhill fork. not to be a dick i am in the same boat as you but shits expensive. save up and get one around $1000 maybe more if you are really serious. or do what i did and get a good full suspension bike with good components that was on sale and a no-name brand, then upgrade the components slowly over time until you have a full downhill bike worth $3000 or more. it will be heavy until you get a better frame but worth it i think

Like a lot of other people are saying, used is the way to go with your budget. I took at look at your local craigslist, and listing for bikes are pretty sparse, but this bike looks pretty good. http://juneau.craigslist.org/bik/3111328534.html

So long as the bike is not too worn out, you could probably negotiate the price and spend the rest of your budget on a set of pedals and a tune-up at a local bike shop.

Any suggestions for a good all mountain bike? Also what price range am I looking at for a used all mountain bike? At the moment I ride a lot of single track with some dirt jumps and drops. I would like to get more into downhill but realistically I cant afford to make it up that often, or to buy an expensive bike.

get an sx trail.

it goes up and downhill and has lockout setting for riding cross country and its got enough travel to hit the drops and ride DH. try and see if you can get a used one but if not definitely save up and get a new one.
