Quick Rendering Question

So I recently finished an edit, it was all shot in 720 60fps on a go pro and a 60D. So the footage is in HD. Now when I rendered the edit, the format was avi. I uploaded the edit to youtube and  it is not in HD, the highest quality is 480.

So my question is what file format should I be rendering with for future edits so that when i upload the video is in HD??

I always render in h.264 as It'll give a very small file while keeping a high quality, and youtube doesn't convert it as it accepts h.264 well. Also are you sure the video isn't still being processed? it sometimes takes youtube a few minutes until you can view it in HD. I'm not an experienced videographer so don't take my word too seriously.

Are you sure you actually rendered it at 720? Often people by mistake have a timeline with a smaller size then the footage, or at render time you are not setting the output correctly.

What software are you using?

And yes as above H264 works very well for youtube videos.

make sure you're restricting the data rate to 5000 kbps (standard def restricts data rate to 2000 kbps) when you export your video

Magnus- I don't believe it is still processing, it finished last night and a few friends have watched it

tomP- I honestly have no clue what i rendered it at other than avi. i'll look more into the details. and i'm using CS5

Make sure your sequence is set to 720x1280, not 480x720. Then just use the H.264 Youtube Widescreen HD setting (but make sure your framerate is set properly in the export settings).
