Has anybody been on this? I can't find reviews of it. How does it compare to other skis in the same category?

Not sure, honestly.
I guess I am interested in it's ability as a tree ski, how well it goes through chopped up powder, how maneuverable it is, and it's ratio of playfulness to stiffness overall.

They ski trees the best. Pivot super nice, they handle crud pretty good. Nice and stiff, stomp like no tomorrow.

Just ask more questions. I cant really pinpoint anything right now since my brain is fried. So i need questions.

The 186 from last year cannot be compared to the 191, or this years line. It's a complete redesign using what they learned with the 191 platform last year.

Though since year one they have been using customer input to make this a go anywhere, do anything ski. I don't think any ski in the lineup has received as much attention design wise as the BG. Scott seems super excited about the BG lineup now.

That's true. the new ski is 100 percent better than last year's ski. It skis incredibly well. The RES is something we need to have people be aware of a little more because the skis we have built it into truck.

What would make a better tree ski? This year's 186 Tour or the 2011/2012 186? How does the RES help in deeper snow?

RES stands for reverse elliptical sidecut. Basically, starting at the tip, the ski is fully reverse sidecut, much like a spatula (or a waterski). However, instead of being reverse sidecut all the way through the ski, the widest point is halfway down the tip, it then gets skinnier towards the waist. After a small section of transition, the ski from underfoot down has a more traditional sidecut.

On hardpack the widest point of the ski in the tip creates a contact point with the snow, and in combination with the sidecut in the tail, it will carve similar to a traditional sidecut ski. However in soft snow, it skis much like a reverse sidecut ski, with all the benefits of being able to pivot and surf powder.

I think that the 12/13 ski is much better than the 11/12. If you're looking to tour a lot on it, get the tour layup, but if you're trying to just have a good inbounds ski, it's not necessary to get the tour layup

honestly the 12/13 is a huge improvement, even though the 11/12's were already fantastic. I would say the 12/13 is hands down the best big mountain/powder ski I have ever been on

Obviously the reccommended point is the reccommended line. I'm wondering how far back from center the reccommended line is.

Thanks for all the help, guys. I demoed the 191 Tours, but I wondered how last years compared. Sounds like they will fit the bill for what I'm looking for.

Thanks for being so helpful. Obviously if I had a billy goat in front of me I would look at the line/measure it out, but I don't have a ski on me because I don't own a pair, hence the question.

Traditionaly the 186 has been about -7. Not sure why it matters. As this is the sweet spot of the design, and to go much off of it would make the ski not as good. Not really sure how much a more forward or back mount could benefit this ski. You have to remember that the RES starts at mid sole on next years.

I think ON3P's mounts recc's are pretty dialed.
