Video shooting in deep snow

i'm not sure if i want to kill you or thank you for making me watch that in june, fucking awesome snow right there

i enjoyed that a lot. great video man. filming and skiing was top notch. looked like a killer day.

I've shot in deep snow a couple times and learned a little about it. That being said, it's well outside my comfort zone, haha.

To keep the lens clean, always use a hood. I use a 70-200, and the lens hood is nice and long. It keeps the front element clear.

My primary problem is keeping the tripod stable enough to use a long lens. Often I put pressure on the pan handle and the whole setup shifts deeper into the snow. To deal with this I really need to dig into a position. While skiers are bootpacking, I'll dig a hole thats a couple feet deep and then drive the tripod legs in as far as possible. Then I compact as much snow as possible around the legs to try and keep things stable. Then if you wait for a bit the snow hardens up and you're good to go!

So why exactly are you filming on your only powder day of the season?

Because thats what I enjoy doing even though i may not get as many laps i like looking back at the goodtimes. -Akreig- Ya ive rand into that however i usually just stomp a spot with my boots and but a branch or two over it, however the two main things that were killing me were keeping the camera dry and focusing on the rider from way far away. I was using a 7d and a AX-H1 and i gotta say the 7d blew in that snow, im really glad i brought the AX-H1
