Best All Around Skier in the World (AK + Park) = Candide

Who is the best All Around Skier in the world that can kill it in AK just as hard as at X Games?

1 - Candide
2 - Chris Benchetler
3 - Sean Petit
4 - Dane Tudor
5 - Mark Abma


They need to have more competitions like the Red Bull Cold Rush with jibbing and big mountain to determine it.

All these threads about who's the best are pretty stupid in my opinion. Everyone and their mother has their own preferences and this is ridiculously stupid to try and proclaim that yours make more sense that the others'.

i can't believe i forgot pep.. i am ashamed of myself. revised list:

1) Candide
1) Tanner
3) Dane
4) Pep
5) everyone else

I agree that Sage and Abma are amazing skiers but they don't have the park/jib skills that these guys have. P White, Delorme, and those dudes are amazing skiers too but same thing, I don't think they have the big mtn skills to hang with these guys (not yet). Sammy mobs both but as, someone pointed out, most of his BC stuff is charging big booters and features, I can't think of a really solid AK style descent from Sammy.

people, we are talking about the PRESENT. sean pettit is the best skier alive. there isnt one shot in sammy or dane's grand bizarre segment that isnt mind-blowingly banger. oh ya, and both of them fucking kill it in the park.

Why? He is a good skier and has good style, he is also an all around skier, from X-Games Big air to Park edits to Urban, to BC kickers to big lines and cliffs Jacob does it all.

never seen any of those videos, i have been learned.

+k to you sir although because Dane came along in a later point in skiing, he can throw much more difficult tricks. talentwise i'd have to say they are probably equal in the backcountry, and dane MIGHT be a little better in the park.

they're both incredible skiers though, no doubt about it.

ya, like i said though different generations. Dane is 20 years old and on par with todays athletes. Candide is 30 years old and doesn't do much park skiing anymore, but was on par until he stopped. Would you like to know why he stopped?

Candide was out for a ton of time after breaking his back on that. He has since switched directions and has been working on a 2 year movie project that will blow your mind.

The  younger generation will pick dane over candide simply because they werent following skiing when candide was where he was years ago. Candide has been around for a much longer time than most people realize. If Candide keeps skiing big mtn and stays healthy and this movie gets the respect it deserves, then we could see the best skier in our lifetime.  He deserves everything for what he has accomplished.

If we're talking true all-rounder? Jon Olsson.

I don't know any other skier who can throw dubs and be competitive on the FIS circuit (suggestions welcome). I dare say he would slay big mountain although I can't say I recall watching a video of him doing it.

Since when did skiing = jumps + rails + AK?

He has won Scandinavian Big Mountain Championship three times I think. SBMC might not sound like a big comp but the ones competing are people like you and me, and then there's people like Henrik Winstedt (FWT Champion, x-games medals and did qualify for moguls in olympics), Kaj Z (aka flying squirrel, one off the best freeskiers to set foot on this planet), Reine Barkered (current FWT champion), Wille Lindberg (competing in the FWT), Sverre Liliequist (skis with kaj, always, lots of FWT podiums, amazing skier) and a whole bunch of other great athletes that has performed well in FWT/FWQ comps.
So, yes, he can ski big mountains aswell, Jon is an amazing all around skier. Henrik Winstedt is one off the best aswell, see the reasons above.

Agreed except swap p white for Jon. Jon has been on the podium in half pipe, big air and slop at X. Has some sick dubs. And can shred big mountain and race.

as far as all-time best, categories being:
park (jumps, massive jumps, rails, pipe)
skiing "real mountains'
crazy achievements (ground-breaking shit on Chad's Gap, winning a bunch of different competitions consistently in different aspects of skiing)/classic movie segments/other contributions to the sport (JOI/JOSS, Candide Invitational)


that's not to say that some of the newer skiers mentioned in this thread will probably join/surpass Jon, THall, & Candide (Sammy, Dane, those kids jumping into their small pool from their summer set-up, ect).

i have a name that hasn't been mentioned...henrick windstedt. dude has been a top level park guy, jump master, mogul slayer, and big mountain champ. he's literally done everything but racing and aerials at the highest level.

as for best, candide...he's really the only one that people have been listing who is an elite big mountain skier on the level of the sage and seth types.

you're high. Candide is only 5 years removed from gold in slope at X. Beating out Sammy, Jacob, Colby, Jon, etc.

Candide is a OG.....he has logged some of the gnarliest and most tech park/jump shots ever. Superpark? Clearing the whole fucking hip? No one else even tried it. Hitting Chads switch (first to do so I think...). The cork 810 onto the down box? I could go on and on. The dude basically trademarked true tail.

You're not "fairly unexposed" you're clueless or have only begun to follow freeskiing in the last 2-3 years.

Candide was the first pro to hold an invitational and to this day arguably built the biggest jumps ever built.

Dane is incredible...guarantee you he'd point to Candide as a major influence and wouldn't even put his name in the same breath as Candide's. Obviously park skiing has progressed a lot since Candide was on top in the mid aughts, but Candide is also flirting with 30...a solid ten years older than many of the sports best, which in skiing, is a lifetime. If Candide was 21, there's no question that he'd be one of the slope heavy hitters.

I don't mean to be a dick, it's just....man....it's fucking CANDIDE!

I really think Candide is kind of on another level where he can just do whatever the fuck he wants, and pretty much just blow minds

Dane has skied some sick lines, but Candide skis way more technical big mountain lines and has the hardware to prove it. Also, there is a difference in stomping a single crazy trick on a step down over a cliff and skiing an entire big mountain line.

Candide never hit Chad's switch. That was Tanner and Jon sometime after Candide dropped the most massive d-spin7 over it. Candide's d-spin was back in like 2001(ish) and no one had ever dropped a backcountry air like that. On top of that the jump he used was tiny compared to the jumps they use now on Chad's (especially Tanner and Jon's jump).
