An absolutely incredible effort but to nuance, you are much more likely to score more medals in swimming.

Sixteen pool events for the males, and there isn't as large difference between the different events as there is with running etc...

Great effort, but with most disciplines you have just one shot at a medal per games.

I'd still call him greatest olympian ever, with almost double the athletics all time winners. Its getting too much into semantics otherwise. Plus im giving credit to an American, with happens rarely :P

true, but i think the different strokes are still quite a distinction. you see plenty of swimmers who specialize in one stroke and just make it in that, but phelps mastered all four. how often can you say that of a swimmer? look at lochte this year, more or less trying what phelps did on '08 and so far not doing nearly as well

just think about it. he won 8 gold medals in '08. he won a gold in literally every event he entered. thats incredible. i think its hard, at this point, to argue he ISN'T the greatest olympian ever. who would you put above him? jesse owens also had an incredibly olympics, but phelps put two incredible olympics' together back to back, and is on his way to having a very good third olympics.

doubt thats true, but even if it is 7 gold medals is still pretty damn impressive, especially when some of the events are relays and thus dependant on your teammates swimming will enough

probably not very good. i bet she can't stand up on a pair of skis, and the whole style thing could be a little difficult for anything more than boner landings with her hands in the air. creativity past doing a lot of flips and spins would probably be nonexistent as well.

yeah but you can learn style. i think having that kind of balance and air awareness is a lot harder to learn than style. and shes probably pretty fearless as well. you may have a point about the creativity thing, its really hard to say just from watching her perform gymnastics though

style is nearly impossible to learn because it's unique to everyone. you wanna learn air awareness, go jump on a trampoline for an hour everyday. in a month you'll have it down.... and these gymnasts are training like 8 hours a day.

it's not hard to learn air awareness, balance is difficult but most gymnasts are just born with good senses of balance.
