60D vs T3i? HELP

I searchbarred but only a sarcastic thread came up on the subject...I'm looking for a camera that will grow with me, that will also be able to go with me as a take up photography. I really like the construction of the 60d and both have the tilty-swively screen.

I'll be filming skiing longboarding and definitely some cinematography stuff. I also hope to do photography in the future like some weddings and parties.

Anyone with an opinion can help I just really can't decide if the 60D's extra features justify the extra cash.

I can get the 60D for $870 shipped w/ 18-135mm lens

I can get the T3i for $540 shipped w/ 18-55 lens

The T3i body is out of stock otherwise I'd get that and the 60D body with an extra lens like the Tamron 17-50 is out of my price range.

Sparknotes: Should I get a 60D w/ 18-135mm lens or wait for a T3i body to get instock and purchase that with a Tamron 17-50 and like a nifty fifty 1.8? For action photography and videography (skiing, short movies, cinematography)?

Are there any features on the t3i that make you not want a t2i? like the flip out rotational screen? because a t2i might be a better option, and savemoney to put towards another lens or something.

i was going to ask this too. I know you said you wanted it for photography too, so I'm not really sure the differences between the t2i vs the t3i in terms of photos. For video, the t2i has the same quality as the t3i, and it also has a better version of magic lantern (someone correct me if this is wrong).

well I was very interested in the tilt screen...and is the build quality in the 60d worth the extra money? I've also heard that the 60d is better for photos

I have a 60d and it's such a pain going back to a fixed screen when I use someone else's 5d or 7d

I think that might just be personal preference, i have the 60D and i have gone from it to a 7D for a day of shooting and it didn't really bother me too much.

It's not so much personal preference as it is what you're shooting. I can recall multiple 5d shoots I've been on where the filmer is forced into uncomfortable/awkward positions because of the screen. The most recent one being a low slider shot where I was forced to lie on the ground with my head against the floor to see the screen. I'll agree that most of the time it's not a big deal, but it can make things wayyy easier in certain situations

No I'd definitely want the flip out screen so my decision will ultimately be between a 60d with kit lens, because frankly I cannot afford another lens after just buying the body right now, or a T3i body with a Tamron and maybe a prime.

I misread your first post, i thought you were saying you didnt prefer the flip out screen, my apologies.

But yeah the flip out screen is nice when you're shooting in different angles

If I was choosing between the 60d and the T3i I would defs get the 60d. Even though they have the same sensor and the same tilt out screen there are plenty of differences that make the 60d worth it.. First off if you've ever held either of these cameras, right away you will notice that the 60d (although not magnesium alloy) has a much tougher design and feels more professional.
The 60d offers better ISO performance with more ISO value's, higher shutter speed's, and a superior FPS of 5.6... The buffer will also take much longer to fill on the 60d. From a photographic standpoint the 9 cross type points dominate the t3i's 1. But if possible I highly recommend you don't get the kit lens and opt for maybe a 30 or 50mm 1.8.. especially for indoor shooting. I'm not to good at wording this so check out this vid...

so  what you're saying is that i'd be better off with the 60d if i want to do more photography? and i should buy just the body and a 50mm?

the kit lens with the lowest aperture of 3.5 will be pretty bad in low light situations.
