You don't NEED to go to college.
I have a friend who didn't go to college who just turned 30. He owns his own house. Makes around 70k a year doing IT for a tax company. Get's plenty of time off and comes skiing with me all the time. He goes to museums and we have conversations about science. He's fucking awesome and didn't need college.
Myself, I needed it. I wasn't ready to become an adult yet. I needed to grow, figure out who I was, figure out what I really wanted to be doing. I hated highschool and never fit in. I never had more than a few good friends. I wasn't right for Minnesota. I wasn't learning the right things in Minnesota.
I picked a college based on location/the vibe I got from the people and then major. I thought I wanted to be an archaeologist. Thank god my school had an awesome graphic design program with an awesome media center and great technology. Cause now I'm a part time web developer and a full time ski bum (except right now I'm chilling for the summer in Europe). I wouldn't have figured that out for myself if I had stayed in Minnesota. I'm so fucking happy with life. I have amazing friends that mean the world to me. I make decent money. I get to do what I want. And I have a piece of paper that has let me get some rad temporary positions (marketing for Copper, Interning with Malakye). Im not quite ready to settle down yet. But I know I can go get a job for 686, Holden, B4BC (I know, snowboarding companies, but they are both walking distance to me in LA). For me College was the absolute right choice.
I'm in huge debt from it and not even using my degree, but if fucking changed my life for the better.
