The UAE and Saudi Arabia are very, very corrupt, dark places in the world. Rich white people, mistreated woman, slaves, etc.

I've heard some wild things about Dubai. My old roommate used to have a full time driver, and she said that wasn't at all uncommon. She wasn't even excessively wealthy, that's just how it goes there. Any time they would have a party it would be fully catered and everything. I need to visit at some point.

She also said it was apparently illegal to be in debt there, so you would see hundred thousand dollar cars abandoned on the side of the road as people would just drop everything and leave the country.

Wow. Reading that article on Dubai completely changed how I view the place. I always imagined it as happiness and smiles and rich people. Now it just seems shitty and depressing

Excellent article. I saw most of these problems back in 08 when I visited my family over the summer when they were living there. It was a soulless place, very depressing. I was happy when they moved.
