I dont measure john howards 'achievements' soley on economic feats. But when faced with a choice between Howard and Latham; Howard is comparitivley alot better.

Latham stands for the 'family' how convenient is it that this learner to politics makes policies in direct conflict to what howard stands for. Pushing yourself as the alternative if you dont like howard is not my idea of a prime minister.

Sure Latham's promises are more 'family-friendly' but 1) they are funded by the surplus the howard government created and 2) his reckless management of the economy could lead to higher interest rates, higher CPI etc... which in lamens terms leads to a highercost of living for everyone. Why hand out more money via welfare only to take it back through careless management of the economy. Would not it be better for All Australians if they had more money in their pocket and did not have to rely so heavily on welfare? Also one must consider the welfare of Australia in general in a more globalised world. A stronger economy means more social stabilty. With our close ties with many australasian countries what benifits us economically also has a positive ripple effect on those smaller countries unable to fend for themselves economically. And guess what the NZD is unoffically 'pegged' to the AUD so if our $$ goes up so does yours.

Being a economics major student at uni i could keep on blabbing on but basically i want to say is that i dont measure howards achievements soley on economic rationale but rather i voted for him becuase what he stands for will benefit all australians. Remember no on is perfect and past non-relevant issues such as the children overboard should not be dragged into our judgement on who will be the best PM for australia's future

and i am also sure you know how convincely the liberals routed the ALP. Latham's party is actually in a worse off position than it was prior to the election in the sense that they are holding less seats and the majority those lost seats are noe held by the Liberal party.

so please keep your un-educated comments to yourself
