What kind of a gun do you own?

Looking into purchasing a gun and have narrowed it down to the Rugar 10/.22:

If you own one, post it up and share what you like/dislike about it, what kind of game you shoot, etc. Any further advice on cheaper alternatives or anything good for beginners as far as semi autos go would also be greatly appreciated.

Spend the dough and get a 10/22. I have one and love. It's probably the most reliable .22 out there and there is so much stuff out there that you can outfit it with. I would recommend buying the all-weather stainless version as you won't have to worry about the rifle rusting or have wood deteriorate. I use mine for general plinking and varmint shooting. I'll post a pic of it later when I'm not on mobile.

i shot a ruger .22 yesterday. now keep in mind i know little about guns, having only gone shooting 3 times in my life. however, i really enjoyed shooting the rugar because it has very little recoil and its quite accurate. also, .22 ammo is not expensive.

He lives in the Netherlands. It was probably one from WW2 that just hadn't been found yet. WW2 artifacts are still coming up in farmers field and stuff all over the place.

Or it could have been recently used in a crime and somebody had ditched it.

Basically this exact same gun. Just mine is black, I have a different muzzle break and I have laser flashlight combo. I am also looking for a suppressor and possibly a 10in barrel so I can shoot vermin at night around my house with it. suck that .223 ammo is so expensive.

My thoughts exactly, I am hoping my meter is broken. 5.56/.223 is fucking cheap in comparison to most centerfire rifle rounds.

a couple .22's, two beretta 9mm's, a smith and wesson over and under shotty, a .32 with a nice scope and some other stuff I can't remember. I think we have a desert eagle, my granpa also has a shit tone of hand guns.

I've often seen some really good 'specials' at SGammo, but they don't last long and need to be purchased as soon as you see them. Every time I wanted to pick something up and said I would do it later, that deal was long gone by the time I got back to the site. I really am not fond of cheaperthandirt, their prices usually suck. Surplus Ammo has decent prices now and then, but they are local to me, so I would get hit with nearly 10% sales tax.

Freedomunitions or something like that sells from what I understand to be exceptionally reliable reloads, but at really solid bulk prices. I guess they do them in batches though by calibers and particular loads, so they are not always on hand when you are ready to purchase.

I call up local shops in the Seattle area every now and then to compare prices and see if they have anything on sale, or not in the normal inventory rotation. Some harder to find handgun self defense rounds are sold out here for way cheaper than the competition, but they don't last long at all on the shelves. I prefer to support my local shops, at least the ones that deserve the support, but I'm not against finding good deals and saving money. I typically purchase my 12 gauge target loads at Sports Authority when they run specials, or at Cabelas by the case when they are on sale. Gotta be looking and ready to jump on the opportunities when they arise, otherwise you end up spending way too much for crappy ammo, been there one too many times before.

My dad has some big ass .22 military issue or something from back in nam cause he was a fighter pilot. He has also told me we have a gold triggered 12 gauge but i think he's full of shit on that one.

The ruger 10 22 is an excellent gun. extremely accurate but can also empty a 25 round clip quick if you have a fast finger.  I have the tapco intrafuse stock on mine. I would recommend an aftermarket stock. the wood one it comes with isnt great.

So expensive was a stretch but it's getting more expensive and having it full auto would be fun but around here I'm paying almost .60 cents per round. I plan on ordering some ammo online 350 bucks for 1500 rounds is a good deal just can't find it locally. Ammo prices are rising.

1986 Remington Wingmaster 870 12 gauge. Black walnut stocks in super good shape. I pretty much stole it for $200. Just use it to shoot skeet.

Ended up purchasing the Rugar 10/.22 for $230! Pretty stoked on my purchase overall.

The bolt cartridge is on the right side of the gun, would this have any affect on alternating which shoulder I rest the stock on? The manual says right shoulder but I feel more comfortable with the left...

Not at all, I shoot my right hand oriented firearms left handed without problems, including my own 10/22. Good choice by the way, they are very fun and reliable, and have a wide variety of aftermarket parts available for complete customization if you so choose.

Not much. The texture would be different, and the synthetic stock may make the entire rifle weigh slightly less. Synthetic stocks are usually a bit better for wet weather as they have textured grip areas, but that's about it.

Synthetic stocks generally have a lower value resale wise as well. Hardwood stocks are considered "nicer" although function wise, they perform the same. For 10/22's you can get 100's of different types of stocks.

If you want a nice cheap, good looking stock - the Boyd Evolution laminate stocks are extremely well made.

just added a 10/22 to the collection, I jamed at least 8 times before i put the first 150 rounds through-Not sure what the problem is will most likely bring it back to the shop, very disappointed in that regards so far other than than super fun gun just ordered a banana clip for it well see how that goes

What brand of ammo were you using? And did you clean it at all before shooting it?

My 10/22 is really particular about which ammo it likes best. Remington bulk ammo and Winchester bulk ammo are no good through my 10/22, constantly jams or fails to eject. Not to mention the number of duds in the Remington bulk boxes is ridiculous. Federal, CCI, or Aquila are good to go though for mine.

Try some different ammo first and see if that helps.

i have a '48 mossberg m57a .22lr semi auto
and i have sporterized mausers in 7mm mag, 30-06 and .243 and a savage 17 HMR, these 4 are all bolt action

i dont actually shoot animals, just target shooting, i really like the 17, its nice and easy to shoot, super accurate. the nice thing about it is that if my girlfriend comes and shoots with me its a gun she can shoot, no kick... perfect everyday plinker, the mossberg would fit this role but its my dads gun from when he was a kid, shitty scope on it, jams a lot etc.

the .243 is a real pleasure to shoot too, not much kick, nice fast round. the 7mm and 30-06 are a bit of an overlap, the 7mm is a fun gun, ive only got abot 10 rounds through it so far, startin right out at 500 yards it was real close, i got it dialed in ok now, 7mm and30-06 kick quite a bit, i think the 7mm is less "violent" though.

To add to the ammo issue - like the other guy said, certain rounds dont cycle through semi-auto's as well as others. I have great luck with federal ammo personally, but my gun is far from stock.

An additional issue you may have, is that the feed angle for a 10/22 is pretty steep, pending what magazine's you've been using (especially butler creek) are notorious for not feeding properly and can cause jams. If your going to get a banana clip - make sure its that newer Ruger BX-25 round clip as its guaranteed to work perfectly.
