That's a shame. I'd hope they're putting it on hiatus to do as they say and fix the budget and get her up and running after this winter. I have a feeling it will be more than a season before June is operating again. This doesn't surprise me though because from my understanding, Mammoth hasn't been doing so hot lately.
Yeah, it was a sad season. People who had worked for the mountain for 30+ years were laid off. The town needs to develop more. It lacks a lot of nightlife and there needs to be some extreme pampering and real high-end resorts and lodges. I just hope for the best for Mammoth, it's a tough time right now.
you can't blame anyone other than rusty and the rest of mammoth upper management for all the bullshit that happened this past season, yeah it was a low snow year but in reality we had plenty of snow for a profitable season. on top of that the season before last was mammoth's most profitable ever so in order for them to be doing so badly now there had to be some very poor business decisions (i.e. cutting out marketing almost entirely, subsidizing flights, and outsourcing food and beverage). as far as nightlife goes i think you either don't know mammoth very well or are talking out of your ass, i think that hyde, lakanuki, grumpys, the tap, and the clocktower pretty much cover all of the different bar scenes people might be into at night. and we don't need extreme pampering either... we already have a black pass which is pretty much class segregation and is extremely unpopular among locals, on top of that we have the westin which is a super high end resort and we have everything in between from rustic cabins at tamarack lodge to budget motel 6. mammoth doesnt need to be the next aspen or vail. the town IS developed, its just being managed very poorly. the only thing tough about this time in mammoth is the corporatization of what use to be a family run business and its happening across the ski resort world right now.
if he went from closing june, then to saying he was reopening June, and then backs out of it again, it will be the biggest shitstorm of all time. i'm cautiously optimistic but I hope so. I already miss shredding The Face
