BagJump? Is it worth it?

Hi! We are considering investing in a BagJump for the upcoming season. Since it´s quite a big investment we were hoping that some of you had had any experience with it... anything.. Is it worth it? Injuries,,, and so on.. Thanks! -Norwegian School of Elite Sports-

Landing switch and on your side is all good. Definitely wouldn't want to land on your head of course. I have also had some scary moments landing forward, as you don't always slide across it that well. So could see knees possibly twisting etc. Still, much better alternative to learning stuff than straight to snow! Maybe just try and land switch more than forward on it..

landed in every possible way on it. i cant immagine getting hurt on it, except if youover/undershoot. i love bag jumps, because you can try whatever trick. itd be cool having the same kicker as on the bag, right next to it with a snow landing.

They are fantastic for progressing. And if you're not a complete numpty, they're pretty hard to hurt yourself on, although you'll want to make sure most of your skin is well covered.

All that said, in the space of a week 2 people got spinal injuries on one I was hitting. The first guy went way, way way too fast and landed on about the last 2ft of the bag and fell off the top of it onto his head. The other guy totally wussed out and fell in the gap between the kicker and the bag.

Was going to be spending my last few days on one at Kirkwood last season. Until the wind picked it up and blew it into the lift. ?!?!

Notes. Get one. I'd pay for a season pass if I lived closer.

i ski a lot of indoor so we have these up regularly, i've never hurt myself on it, only injury i saw on a bag was either kids carving off too hard and missing the bag or a friend of mine who landed bad, ejected and took a ski to the face.....

then again all of those could just as well happen on snow, i'd say generally speaking they are excellent, i learned my lincolns, back and front on it before throwing them on snow, also did a lot of future spins and got really good air 'feeling' on these things without ever having to be scared of the landing...

if you hit them an entire day you do feel it in your muscles though :) the landings don't hurt but they aren't super soft either ....

so yeah definitely invest in them if you're aimed at progressing in freestyle, it gives you a unique opportunity to try things without big consequences

I hit the one @ Woodward Copper and it's decent, it's the kind with snowflex on top so you can ride away, I'm sure it would be better if you had it smooth so it wouldn't scratch and get you wet. Also I preferred the foam pit greatly over the bag but thats just my opinion. Bags are good if done well and you have the advantage to carve more, go switch and ride away.

Also IMO bag jumps suck if the jump is steep like an aerialists jump.

Dont waste money on a bag jump. Chances are it wont be set up properly and they are kinda dumb. Invest in some new rails or use the money for a rail jam or something fun for the kids.

Bag jump is worth it if you let the kids try stuff. First time hitting one, landed on my head. kinda a worse case scenario thing but walked away just fine. tried it again and stomped first backie then brought it to snow the next day.

a crystal they have an airbag and its so fun. you do any trick you please except a backflip cause some idot smacked his head on the lip but you can do rodeos ect. and it doesn't matter how you land. I've landed on my head and it was fine

had the same exact situation happen to me. had one up at Granite Peak in WI for a weekend. only one kid got hurt and did something to his ankle but other than that no injuries. our jump wasnt similar at all in regards to the bagjump jump and the one i landed my backflip on. but it was easy to take it too snow

i rode one at whistler 2 seaons back when they had them set up for free on a regular basis one day on the bag and i landed rodeo 5's and 7's in the black park chyea

he is a snowboarder, he did a backflip and landed kind of loose, tomahawked sort of and he somehow broke his foot.

they are nifty, and i don't know what you have going for you already, but it seems like with that kinda money you could put in some really nice rails and jumps that will ultimately improve your skiing more than a huck'n'hope bag.

Buy one. Airbags are awesome. We had one this year and our team made tons of use out of it. Easy to land anyway as long as its properly inflated. Make sure you learn to use the vents properly because otherwise you could hurt athletes. We set ours up pretty big (good for learning doubles or really anything you want to try) and one of my friends did completely miss it on a kang. He went huge and was slightly early so it drifted him to the side. He was perfectly okay, just some gnar bruises.

Buy an airbag.

Also you can get back some of the money from implementing an "airbag pass" this is what my hill did but they made it expensive as shit. An airbag pass would prevent groms that are going to kill themselves on it and make more exclusive/less busy for the people that actually want to progress on it. Don't make it really expensive as people wouldn't want to buy it then.

The ski team I competed on this year had access to an airbag, it is definitely a great investment. It is far less intimidating than water ramps or straight to snow and as long as the people hitting it are not complete airheads then you should be fine for injuries. Make sure athletes are going off of it straight, we had a kid do a dub flat and missed the bag, he was very lucky and somehow managed not to break anything but he was out for two months because of a serious concussion.

ive been to a few bag jumps and i've yet to see one set up properly, they're always crowded, and at some you pay per hit... id 10x rather hit a well shaped jump

usually the people getting hurt are the ones that are clueless about hitting jumps in the first place. And then there are just freak accidents from landing weird, but are rare. Skis flying off, smacking you in the balls and shit.


Like mentioned earlier, it's worth it if it's set up correctly... not like an aerial jump. I think places set it up like that because it's harder to overshoot the bag with a steeper take off.



Also, i would check every1's edges, unless you don't care how many repairs you have to do on it. I see too many kids that don't give a shit about bags and try to sesh with edges poking out in every direction.

unless you're a camp that had a "need" for one its a giant waste of money. As its been said spend the money on something else like rails/competition or a new snow gun to better your park.
