i feel that most americans have been stripped entirely of their civil rights. the patriot act pretty much allows NSA to poke their noses in whatever they want. the internatinal 'american concentration camps' ie guantanamo (orwhatever they are) and etc strip people of their rights that are defined in the american constitution and the un charter of rights. it sickens me to see a nation herald the principles of freedom and democracy while behind closed doors they engage in the most vile forms of human debauchery (what? you didn't see the humiliated, tortured, and petrified ragheads in iraq on cnn?). frankly america has been abusing it's powers as the world's largest economy for decades now and i've disliked the USA for a while now. i like american people alot, i go there lots and have many good friends, but i think their foreign policy is self centered and hypocritical in many, many ways. i could write a book on this but i'm going to end it here and see what you yuppies have to say.

Well the way I look at it when they were making this country they had no idea we were gonna turn out so good. Now that we 'panned' out and are one of the most powerful nations of all time if not the powerful nation they want to preserve what we've got. I have all the freedom I need. I don't break many laws anymore so I have nothing to worry about. Only people who are doing bad shit need to worry about it and I don't think we need to protect the rights of shitheads anyway. Honestly, like anewmorning said anyone who doesn't like our system feel free to leave the doors open. I personally don't mind buying into the 'rules' of living in American society I think the trade-offs are fine. If I wanted 100% freedom I would be living in the jungle somewhere bragging to all the poisonous frogs about how cool it is to live without laws. There are plenty of countries in this world to live in and if people were upset with patriot act they can by all means buy into another 'System' but to say yours is superior is just ignorant.

why would you want to be held down by the constraints of a job though? then you will have to pay taxes, obey tax code, and if you lie, you could have the law come down on you. that is the exact problem that captain canada is talking about. thats the man holding you down.

what i'm saying is that what the bush administration has done is wrong.

1- the invasion of iraq was based on evidence that the administration deliberately mislead the american public about. bush and cheney's motivation behind the whole war are dubious and questionable. it is reasonable to believe that the vested interest these men had weighed heavily in their decision to incur into iraq.

2- the treatment of suspected terrorist suspects is appaling. the laws that were enacted to deal with them are unconstitutional and violate the rights of american citizens. sure you can interrogate them and detain them. but you can't deport them to an island somewhere, not allow them any form of communication to the outside world and leave them and their families and their countries in limbo. this happens to non-us and us citizens.

3- the american economy is sputtering. questionable tax policies and stretching military expenditures have stressed the bush budjet. again, who benefits from the tax cuts and who benefits from the military money. halliburton in both counts, uncontested in awardings of military contracts for the second. can this evidence of political misconduct again overlooked?

4- i'm not telling you how to run your country. i'm sorry if i came across as such. i spend my summers in the states actually and i kinda like some parts. nice people, fun towns, and nice scenery. dickheads are everywhere, canada too. i'm not even saying our canuck system is better even. our government is just as corrupt and frankly maybe this rant should be directed and the vilification of poilitics in general across the world. absolute power corrupts absolutely. i admire the american constitution and much of what it stands for. i think your nation was founded on noble intentions, it's just some of the caretakers of the country have been inept.

the invasion to iraq was actually really bad idea i think. perhaps i give of a condensceding tone when i write and you all hate me for criticizing, but seriously, invading countries WILL generate more hatred and more attacks. it is that hatred that fuels more terrorist attacks. to win the war on terrorism, you not only have to contain the terrorist; you must also contain and soothe the hate. every consequence has a cause, i suggest you research the cause of the hatred for americans from middle east nations and try to deal with that. why do they hate america to the point of flying airplanes into it's buildings? find out about these things and address them. perhaps if america genuinely attempted to address these concerns hostilities would decrease.

I thought of myself as an anarchist growing up and all I wanted to do is overthrow 'the man' but sometime between then and now I've grown up or as some of you might call it 'conformed' I don't mind our system. I was in class the other day (my professor is middle eastern not sure where from) but anyway he was talking about one of his friends who recently moved to America. His friend said 'To people that complain about not being able to make it in America and are discriminated against should try to live elsewhere in the world for a year come back to America and just smile' We have it good we have it real good. At the cost of others, sure. But if the roles were reversed would they expliot us for their benefit, probably.

I'm all about improving but seeing as improvement is an opinion. One group of people may think we are improving while another group thinks we are regressing. So who should get their way? The larger population? The lunatic fringe? Thats why drastic changes dont happen very often I think

one thing though, we all agree that some things are problems but let certain beliefs... or just laziness get in the way. we all know bush is taking away personal liberties, we all know were harming the environment, we all know we need to improve educational policies, especially in regards to health and population control... most people seem to think that the world is unsafe and that their lives could end at any minute due to some abiguous foreign threat... but what do we do about these problems? we say, meh, well deal with them later, except for the last one... where we allow the solutions thought up for us to fleece us... and then we go on with business as ussual. gas up and go.

true dat, I think people in general are more worried about dying in a freak accident then they are in more likely circumstances (car crashes, poor health, exc). I really think it would be best for this planet for the human race to just wipe itself out. If you picture in your head the last few hundred years of human society and try to project where this is going it looks real bad. The fact that we choose economy over environment is going to have drastic consequences within the next few hundred years. I almost feel that we have gone too far to change our ways and who knows what it will take at this point for humanity to get on a less superficial, long-term benefits path.
