Canon Rumors: Canon to release 4 more DSLR's in 2012

I know it's not exactly a detailed rumor...but...interesting none-the-less.

Received some information that Canon is far from done as far as camera launches go for 2012. I am being told that 4 more DSLRs are coming in 2012.

Which cameras?
It’s unknown if the expected mirrorless entry counts against the mentioned 4 camera bodies.

Speculation about what the 4 cameras could possibly be are below.

1) “Entry Level” full frame camera. Think of it as a direct replacement for the 5D Mark II.

2) Prosumer APS-C, possibly the 70D and not a direct replacement of the 7D.

3) The big megapixel entry, mentioned to be an EOS-1D style body.

4) A mirrorless entry.

If the mirrorless doesn’t count against the 4 purported camera bodies, I’m unsure what else Canon could have up their sleeves for the EOS line. A few people have suggested a 5D in the cinema EOS lineup, however I don’t think that’s likely until after the EOS-1D C starts shipping in late 2012."

stoked to see what they come out with for the new full-frame. i will either be purchasing that or the 5dmkii. should drop the price of the 5dmkii a decent amount :)

I don't see why canon would replace the 5d2, it's a perfectly good cam and the only real difference between the 5d2 and 5d3 is auto-focus, a bit better ISO, 1mp, and 2 more fps, and obviously more video control. For a photographer the 5d2 is still an amazing camera. My only hope is that this new entry level full frame cam doesn't have video, once they add video the price goes up $200-400, that would be money more well spent on extra photo features like better auto-focus.

this ^ then you could make a dslr more for video since they are so popular these days, something with a good codec, good low light performance, and some better on board features where you don't need to hack it to get what you want

see im split right down the middle. i love photo and video. DSLRs are perfect for me, and i'd love to move up to the full-frame for all teh benefitz. if they do include video in this new full-frame, im very interested in seeing if they add anything new or just through in current technology. if not, i will definitely be picking up the 5dmkii

Exactly, as soon as you want good photo and good video, you either pay a lot of money, or you get a decently priced camera that is very half ass at both.

It will be:

70D
7D Mark II
6D (FF to go head to head with Nikons D600)
a 1D-style professional body

Canon and Nikon tend to release similar things in parallel. It will be interesting to see how Nikon will replace the D5100, D7000 and D300, and if they will implement the on-sensor focus technology from the Nikon 1 system.

Every has just been bashing on Canon on here. I fucking hate that trend. They did something AMAZING with the T2i, but you can't expect them to release something similar every year. Upgrades have always been 'minor' if that's what you want to call it...

You're making it look like it isn't worth upgrading to the 5D3, but the there's a lot bigger difference than what you listed.

I agree with the video. I'd like to see it, as I want to give video a shot, but I wouldn't be keen on the price increase.

What I would like to see in the new 'entry level' FF camera (pretty much everything the 5D doesn't have but I would want):
- 12mp
- 6 fps (Digic V processor)
- 15+ image RAW buffer
- Faster autofocus
- Micro adjust
- Live view
- 3,2" screen (instead of 2,5" on 5Dc)
- Interchangeable focusing screens (just like it is now, but they removed that feature on the 5D3. Stupid.)

I LOVE the 5D. It's an amazing camera, but it lacks the above things. The higher FPS would make it a great sports cam too and the live view and bigger screen would make it awesome as a landscape camera.

My only gripe with my 5dII is slow autofocus and sports shooting. The only point I can really use is center, but other than that (well, maybe having the sensor being prone to dust because it's so large :) its such an awesome camera. FF is amazing, people bash it, but you really have to use it a couple of times to just, know.

I really hope canon makes a nice D600 (nikon entry FF) competitor. I like what Tijmen said in terms of specs, maybe 15-17mp instead of 12mp (although 12 is plenty, and if they could do great noise handling at 12 over 15 and decent handling, I'd be all for it). Faster and more AF points, maybe a 1-2fps increase, nice rear LCD, live view, etc.

The 70d/7dII, well, I'm just hoping for a new sensor. Reusing the one thats been around for several years pisses me off.

Mirrorless - won't be ef native mount, but should be sweet. if it was APS-c that'd be SICKKKK but it will most likely be the g1x one :\ who knows, maybe with a badass video mode it will be a great tele cam!

Exactly. Though I wouldn't want the higher MP, because that would mean slower FPS/smaller buffer. 12 MP is a LOT and would probably yield better ISO. With todays processors, the ISO with 12MPS should be stunning (as in, shooting at 6400 ISO no problem).
And I'd really like the 6>fps. The biggest thing I miss in the 5Dc is high FPS. Coming from a 40D (6,5fps), having half that is quite slow...

I know the feeling! 1d II to 5d II was tragic in terms of AF and FPS. And my 5dII's buffer is only like 5-9 shots :( NEED MOAR PROCESSOR

I hope this new video dedicated DSLR is as good as RED camreas, i mean i just want my videos to look super cool without spending too much moniez. don't you guys agree?
