i dont mean just banksy specifically, i understand that a lot of people dont like him for various reasons. but i just think that if i were to get into graffiti i would rather do something that makes people say "wow thats really cool and beautiful," instead of "wow someone completely ruined that building because they felt the need to write their name."
Yeah, I was just getting pissed watching that video.
Fuck that stuff - you should be able to do it on a designated wall for art, but when it comes to doing it on other stuff, that's just vandalizing. It makes things look like shit.
All graff artists put a name to their work. Even that Banksy shit that you probably sweat. As far as graffiti goes back its all about getting your name out there. That was the whole point. Know your roots. You think graff is about going out and stenciling? Learn to free hand and put your name or your message in a spot where everyone can see it. Thats what its all about.
One of the 4 elements. But you'll probably have to google that too.
That flower one above this post is really fucking meaningful, same with the "one nation under cctv" one.
i love his work, and i also love well done graffiti and stencils. but when kids just tag with scribble letters on walls in plain black spray paint it looks fucking dumb and ruins the building it's on.
love how maybe one other person in this thread will know about thay beef, but everyone else reckons theyre kings. banksy is an art fag. nothing he does is graffiti, its street art. theres a clear difference
Thats what i do, and everybody else i think. The way you first stated it sound like you would outline something in green then fill the inside with a black. may have been the way i read it
saying that bansky is an art fag because he uses stencils instead of freehand paint is like saying monet was a fag because he used oils instead of water color.
graffiti isnt street art. they cross over in various places but not all. for example some people would say a shitly drawn tag isnt art ( which of course, street art is just art in the street), but it is graffiti. however a sculpture or object placed in the streets would be defined as street art, but it isnt graffiti.
It depends what you call art. I think tags can be considered art. To me anything that has thought put into it and is made for some one to view is art. However there are always shitty artists out there. It doesn't mean it isn't art. I would consider street art a genre with many different types of styles or ways of displaying the art.
yeah i was just stating that while they cross over in various places, they are not the same all the time. graffiti is strictly the appliance of a medium onto a surface, whereas street art can include more such as illegal sculptures etc.
? That video was complete bullshit. Don't get me wrong I love graffiti and tagging....when it looks nice or even resembles anything at all. Spraying a paint hose at a moving train is just fucking stupid along with writing the lyrics to a shitty song on subway wall. None of that was art and just ruined like 10 people's days.
and im here to say that i wish people, good artists or not, wouldnt waste their time by throwing tags and writing nothing but their name all over the place. its unattractive and accomplishes nothing but makes people angry. if a street artist is going to do something worth looking at, whether for its aesthetic properties or a message it sends, that is more acceptable and less obnoxious. basically if youre going to deface someone else's property you should at least have a purpose.
he is a sell out and a joke. i love how people that dont write, try to argue for him when someone goes over one of his works. saying his was art but there's was vandalism.
both are straight up vandalism any way you look at it, and thats how it is on the streets. why should it be any different for some art fag.
blek le rat may be the father of stencils, but that doesn't mean he started most of everything banksy does now. blek stencils everyday things (famously: a ballerina, a sheep, rats) while the things banksy does almost always have a political or social meaning behind them.
