Great idea, will help with your writing a ton. It will also allow you to see your photos as a collection and get a better eye for what really deserves to be seen and what you can disregard.

As far as kids on NS caring, maybe not. But again, it will help you out a ton. If you can keep it positive, it will also be very helpful should you want to get into the ski industry. I received an amazing job interview once, failed the interview part horribly, but my blog was able to open up an initial conversation and he told me it was the reason for even receiving the interview. Turns out I was massively under qualified, they were more or less just interested in meeting with me and have kept in contact since. Should anything open up that I am qualified for, I will definitely have a way better shot.

Solid investment for your future. Only suggestion, make all your images the same size/aspect ratio. Pretty sure wordpress has a widget for that.
