Who else is getting on collecting wood for next winter. I use a stihl ms 290 for bucking and a 6 lbs maul for splitting. It is a great deal of work but very rewarding and saves me a lot of money.

once you get over feeling manly this is a good option, assuming you have the option.

I didn't so I have used an axe and a maul as well. Believe me...you NEED the beer when your done with that.

I wish I had a splitter. I will probably need to borrow one or get some wedges for some of the bigger pieces I have been saving.

who makes a thread about splitting wood? this is about as interesting and useful as a thread about washing dishes or shoveling snow. im guessing OP just thinks hes the manliest mother fucking lumberjack because he knows how to swing and axe, and wants to show off to his internet friends.

we use a log splitter as well. only cuz we burn 10 cords which is a shit ton. 390 to cut sections and boored out 440 to drop the trees. shits got balls

Thats funny. Cutting wood is very useful thing and take up a good portion of my summer. If you had to pay your own bills you might understand. Now you can go back to talking about important things like Jersey Shore and Hipsters.

copped a fiskars maul last week, works like a charm, so smooth and very little vibrations in the handle..

i also made something like the video, using an old inner tube of a bike and a chain, it works great if you have perfect wood logs like the vid, too bad i'm mainly splitting ass backwards chunks that are crooked or way too tall or super thin, sucks balls :)

same here. We need seven to keep the house warm. Splitting wood is mindless and calming. Sitting out in the valley with horse on one side, mountains in front of me, and a creek running beside me. Love it out here in Pagosa

Sidenote, I love cutting down trees or pruning them. Nothing feels as natural as climbing a tree and cutting shit down.

Is there a big difference using a Fishars splitting axe over a ordinary maul? It seems like they are a awesome tool but I have never seen one.

not really, they're just quality, easy to swing, very sharp, almost no vibrations down the handle, very strong, etc...

we had so much wood left over from last year that i don't think there's gonna be much to do, just a lot of work transporting it from a pile far away to the closer pile that's accessible in snow
