The Ultimate Ski Pole

Hey guys,
I am an industrial design student and am working on a project in my studio class designing a better ski pole. I am starting with the grip. What are some features you would want in the ideal set of poles, specifically grip?

I use bmx grips on my park poles and they have flanges. I put them on with the flanges at the top of the pole effectively creating a grab tab but keeping it round on top. There are poles with clips to connect to globes kind of giving removable straps but could be modified to have straps. I would say locking bmx grips with flanges, fitting stoppers on top (my problem as they're just duct taped up) and a clip for removing the strap. You could do a cheap replacable pole made of bamboo or something with a more expensive detatchable grip

I am making a removable grab tab,so a removable disk thingy would be easy to do too, I made the top round so its easier to push off the top of the pole.

Poles should include:


- Brass Knuckles
- Flask
- Scewdriver tips
- Bong
- Avy Beacon
- Avy Probe
- Fleshlight
- Lighter
- Sword


They must also be super grippy, super cool looking, light and stiff.

there was a kickstart for an idea for this but it failed. personally i dont need to know what speed i'm going as i do it and how steep the slope im going down while im doing it i would rather just ski it and have a vague idea of it through skitracks and remember it through footage.

- Skinner, grippier grip! Honestly I love the Pin Pole grip.

- Ergonomic straps. One of the few places where freeskiing should look at racing gear.

- Telescopic! Super important! I want to be able to hike with 135 cm, and ski with 110. Preferably some type of low profile design on the apparatus.

- Lightweight and durable.

- Funky colors.

There it is, the ultimate pole.

should be strong, first of all. and fuck all this bike grip stuff, get me some grips like scott's but a little bit smaller, with a similar strap. interchangeable baskets. simple colors.

the one thing I do feel like it could be helpfull for would be avy watching.  Knowing danger angles and being able to know immediately what your standing on top of could be helpful

Thanks for the input guys, It's been either very helpful or made me laugh.

I am designing both a park and backcountry pole.

The Park pole is gonna be smaller with a thinner grip

The Backcountry pole is larger with adjustable height, The grip is shaped differently for shredding spines and a little larger since you'll have large gloves or mitts on.

a cup holder that clips in to a can and pivots on a henge to keep your beer level. my biggest issue when i ski is getting too drunk to hold a beer and two poles all at the same time. a cup holder that keeps my beer level would elminate all of these problems and keep me from mowing over gapers while im focusing on all of the things in my hands.
