Incredible Wild Fire Pictures

Here are some really crazy pictures of the High Park Fire 15 miles west of the town I live in (Fort Collins, CO). This thing is a beast of a wild-fire, it is close to 50,000 acres right now and only 10% is contained. It may be awhile before fire fighters get the whole thing contained cause the largest part of the fire is moving west into an area were 70% of the pines have been plagued by the beetle kill.

I've been working out at the Forest Service this past month, which is right next to the heli base and where all of the firefighters are camping. Also the location of the worst smoke in town since most of the smoke has is concentrated just North of town. I've had to pass through National Guards to go to work every day since the fire started. Went up to Horsetooth Reservior with a friend to watch the sunset and ended up watching Lory State Park burn down as well until the police evacuated us.

Apologize, wasn't reading every post. For me, it's not the fact that a wildfire is close to homes, it is the fact that there have been, what maybe 7 to 8 uncontrollable fires in the last seven days or so that are in my relative area. Yes I know that fires happen every year, but this year there have been many more than average and it is only June. The last big fire that has been in the area where I live was 2002, we got evacuated and even though we were having a terrible drought that year this was the only fire near the size of the fires this year.

This was the missionary ridge fire in 2002.

In my opinion, any fire is a bad fire, this year is just worse then those in the past.

That's gotta be mad dangerous. Those fires cause huge updrafts that could really fuck with a plane.

This is more interesting than normal because there is strong evidence that an arsonist went around the state and lit these fires. Fort Collins, Boulder, and Colorado Springs are struggling.

Other than that, I don't see any need to say any of the things you said. If the fire spreads as fast today as it has in the last 24 hours, the entire Western half of Colorado Springs could be on fire.

So ya, it's a little interesting.

just talked to my friend who lives in the springs, he said theyre getting stuff ready to go just in case. he sent me a pic from last night, and you can see the fires. Good luck to all of you down there! Hope you're ok! im flying out to denver for a wedding on monday

it didnt in this case but its crazy that these fires can actually jump roads and burn just through the canopy of the trees crazy speeds.

Basics should show up, but I bet they have some sort of alternate set up at Peterson or something. It's going to be a nightmare for whoever is in charge of BCT this year, I don't envy them at all.

i've had my house in danger from fire and had to evacuate, i know how it feels. That'd be pretty fucked if someone actually lit these fires...

Looks like CO made a great choice to stop all the controlled burns back in March.

I mean... maybe it prevented some fires then, and I understand the one got out of control, but it certainly isn't helping now.

on the bright side this could be a huge blow to the pine park beetle, the only other way those guys are getting killed is sustained very cold temps, and that isn't going to happen

also on the bright side i hear the mishawaka still stands!

how much of Lory and Horsetooth was burning when you where there? did it burn that neighborhood to the north of the park?

I don't know a lot about wild fires, but it seems like if there are that many acres of forest that able to burn the way they are than the fire could have just as easily been lit by lightning than people. Like it's really messed up that someone would try to burn people's houses, but it's not like the fires wouldn't have happened without an arsonist.

Most of this area was filled with healthy green trees. So it's just doing what a pine beetle would do.
