MA to Dallas road trip. Pit stop ideas?

I've been doing a lot of research on this, but I'm wondering if anyone on here has any insight. So I just graduated from college and got a Finance job in Dallas, TX. I will need my car, so I am road tripping down there with my Mom in a few days to get an apartment, and flying back. It's a 1700 mile trip, and we plan on splitting it up into three days. Right now we are thinking about stopping overnight in Cleveland the first night, and either Nashville or Memphis the second night. Does anyone have any good places to visit at those places? I'm more thinking along the lines of a really good pub/bar - my Mom and I enjoy international food and craft beers! Maybe something that you can't find on the east coast?

Thanks in advance for any help, sometimes its hard to find what you looking for on the interwebs!

Cleveland is a good goal for the first night, but memphis is not all that far from there, and leaves a good chunk for the third day. Shoot for St. Louis maybe?

Don't know a whole lot about the area, but from reading and hearsay I've always wanted to check out the 'wilderness' areas of tennessee. I'd find a cool spot and check out a couple day hikes--heard many times that Tennessee has some real cool places to check out.

Same for Kentucky, but probably mostly more eastern towards the AP's, though there is a Mammoth Caves nat'l park along your route that would probably be pretty sweet. Upon further review, google images says you should definitely check it out.

All cities are different, but really they're rather similar from an outsider's perspective unless you get all touristy on that beez, which is cool, but pretty much what you can get from all the media around nowadays. I like checking out stuff a lil off the beaten path;you never know what you'll find. Hit or miss, but still something to remember and probably won't forget.

I didn't want to go to Dallas. I just got a really good offer from there. I also got an offer to work in San Fran. But it was only 6 month contract and all compensation - sometimes, you need to make sacrifices and choose what is better long-term.

You know its NS when a simple question of advice turns into a thread to demoralize the OP. I guess I should also mention I got accepted into a rotational program, meaning I move 4 times within the next 2 years. At least I'll get to travel a lot (one rotation will even be international).

Anyways, back to the original question, anyone got any ideas on where to stop?

i am on the road around 2000-3500 miles a month a have to say subways isn't the perfect driving and eating food. if he's planning on stopping stopping subways always a good choice.

You'll honestly love Dallas. I hated all things texas for a while then I met my best buddy my first year of college and he was from Dallas, I finally went out there and this winter break for a visit in Dallas and it's a great city. Just super awesome.
