after the success of last seasons thread and the new season only a short wait away after the euros i think it could be time to kick this off

di matteo is set to be confirmed as the new chelsea manager, will he work miracles again?

who's your team and how well do you think they'll do this year?


i'm a sunderland fan and i think we will be top 10 and maybe just sneak into the europa league

Agreed. City, Newcastle and Everton in the coming weeks. Going to be difficult to keep that.

My fantasy team is going down hill! Went from second to fifth in our league in 2 weeks!

I do agree that that term is fucking insane...

but I see at least 5 years of that term being seen out before shit hits the fan... (or... the length that his contract SHOULD be...)

I'm all for it. The guy is 34, at that age and having played as much as he has over the years you can't play them all. Lampard looked great at the end of last season when he was forced to simplify his game, as in just defend and look to spray long balls on the counter. This year his usual style has left Mikel exposed and slowed down the play of Mata, Oscar, Hazard. It's only two games but I'm not surprised to see us win both since Lampard's been dropped. Great servant to the club and hopefully he embraces his new role like Scholes and Giggs have.

that's sick! definitely expensive though.

^^Yeah 5 years seems reasonable. Newcastle have a good thing going for them, seem to have a decent scouting department bringing in solid players for "cheap". Mike Ashley also doesnt strike me as a results driven owner like say Roman is (why was Hughton fired though?). Could turn into an Everton thing where hovering around the top 5-8 every year keeps him in the job.

i worked everyday that summer, and i'm not sure I had any money left when i left london. The arsenal superstore was a well visited place, to say the least.

City easily overcame sunderland

chelsea dominating norwich (nice goal by ivanovic too)

Swansea beating reading 2-1

West Brom above QPR, 3-1

And shockingly, wigan beating everton 1-0

Arsenal vs west ham coming up this afternoon

ive only really been into soccer for 3 or 4 years but it seemed longer. Drogba was my favorite striker and that is what got me into them so im not a bandwagoner

fair enough. Hate to say it, but you're going to be labeled a bandwagoner forever simply because you support chelsea, and seemingly no one supported them until they had money. Not true of course, as people did support them, but they were far from a global brand.

I'm just an old man, sitting here bitterly remembering the past... tony adams, ian wright, and non arsenal guys like shearer, zola, cantona and so on.

seemed like the premier league was a lot more fun back in the 90s.

Ronaldo has been in his heydey since leaving England. The guys scores more goals than he plays games, an absolute machine. He and Messi both came up big this weekend in the Clasico, you should seriously tune into those

i assumed he meant fat ronaldo. Cause he was incredible to watch, but cristiano is something else.


and messi is just absurd. I've read quite a few footballers' wikis, and his is the only one i've seen that actually has a subsection within statistics devoted just to his hat tricks. He's on another level.

I thought he was talking english footy and R9 never played there.

Questions: are cristiano and messi, and their teams real and barca (especially) really THAT good or are they just playing in a two team league. i dont watch enough la liga anymore to figure it out, it seems just a few years ago you would have way more teams "challenging" valencia, atleticos, villareal, sevilla.

good point...whenever i get nostalgic and ronaldo comes up, I just assume it's the fat one who I thank for helping France win the 98 world cup.

I think their CL records show that while la liga is a two team race, these teams and players are the real deal.

For a few years, drawing barcelona in the CL was a death sentence. Real should have been the same, but somehow could never get past Lyon. And both teams have gotten better this season it would seem, even though madrid was off to a slow start. But it comes down to the fact that they both have 1 player who's capable of scoring a higher number of goals than matches he appeared in. 120 goals in 108 apps. That's an insane turnover.


I think mourinho put it best when he said that if ronaldo and messi had been born a generation apart, each would win at least 10 Ballon d'or awards.

Almost hilarious match for Arsenal. There was literally not a single redeeming factor. You know how usually when you lose 1-0, you can say something like the keeper had a great game, we did a good job pressing, our passing was on point...or something to that effect? None of that applies to today's match. Almost feel that the team could have done better by not showing up.

I haven't been watching a lot of the EPL lately and I had never really seen too too much of Van Persie before, and I just had this opinion (I don't know where it came from or if it was valid or not) that he was more of a selfish, fancy player. Hence my surprise this morning while watching the Man U game. He was setting guys up like a champ, some great crosses and passes, great vision. He was easily one of the best players on the field.
It was also nice to see Rooney get a hat-trick (even though one of them was an OG lol.)
One thing I did notice though, I don't know wtf is up with Scholes but this guy was just ridiculous today. Dangerous and stupid tackles all over the place, I thought he was pretty lucky to only have gotten 1 yellow card.
I was impressed with Charlie Adam on the other side. I don't remember seeing him too much in the 2nd half but I thought he played a fantastic 1st half.

Incase you don't actually follow football, Hulk went to Zenit St. Petersburg. Although I am an Arsenal fan (a little embarrassing to say that after today's match v. Norwich) I do believe that Chelsea will win the league this year. Mata has been in form this entire season, Hazard is playing excellent as is Oscar, and overall they are an extremely strong side. Even though it's fairly early in the season, that's my prediction. Obvious challenges for Chelsea will be Man Utd as well as Man City who are also very strong sides. Should be an exciting season to follow

haha, Scholes doing stupid and dangerous challenges, that's new. Not seen the highlights yet but the mans 37 years old he's entitled to a "ridiculous" game for all the good he's done for united. He's famous for his poor tackling. Greatest midfielder of his generation, according to Zizou and Xavi anyway. Not hating, and I'm sure your entirely correct that he could have been sent off, but the mans a legend.

Yeah, my post was directed towards the person quoting yours. But I don't think I could see Falcao leaving Atletico Madrid. I guess for the right price he would leave but he's probably content with his current team. Plus, Torres isn't even having a bad start to his season, nothing like how he played with Liverpool, but that's the past. Scoring doesn't seem to be a problem for Chelsea anyways.

cool your jets favorites are still the manchester teams. united if only because they're always up there and city still has the deepest squad (they just need to get serious) in the league and that matters. i also think london teams have a disadvantage with all the derbies we play.

we're definitely the sexy team at the moment though and great game today. fuckin hate spurs glad we could comeback to put it over them

Rooney is the fucking man. I dont know why there are so many rumours about him leaving. He is not like CR7 or Beckham(sp?), he is not nearly as fladshy as they are. I think the United game next weekend will prove they are the top team. I also wonder how the Chelsea game would have gone had Kaboul and Bale played. Likely Chelsea still would jave won, but who knows.

Good comeback by Chelsea. Spurs seemed the better team. Next week will be the big one. I am afraid that Man U. will come out on top but, I was saying that when Chelsea played Arsenal and they proved me wrong there.
