after the success of last seasons thread and the new season only a short wait away after the euros i think it could be time to kick this off

di matteo is set to be confirmed as the new chelsea manager, will he work miracles again?

who's your team and how well do you think they'll do this year?


i'm a sunderland fan and i think we will be top 10 and maybe just sneak into the europa league

I actually really like the Bundesliga. Same with Ligue 1 in France and Eredivisie in the Nederlands...

Lots of parity and fun matches. Really talented players still. Not as much drama as in the other leagues it seems. Less than in England, Spain, and Italy, especially..

youve gotta give me something. from what little i read G looked goid, but couldnt finish. Arshavin looked better. Cazorla was great, but tired. sounded like arsenal dominated, but couldnt finish

you need to start scoring soon - you already miss RVP, in that you have very little in the way of an outlet up top.

The Mackems defended quite well though - kind of a dull game.

I watched the match. Extremely frustrating. Gervinho looked great, very threatening. Cazorla was easily the best player on the pitch. Podolski was a non-factor and Giroud blew the best chance Arsenal had. Arshavin came on late and didn't really get too involved. Jenkinson's passing was crap. Sunderland didn't have a shot in the second half and barely ever moved outside of their own half.

How do you guys follow the league and watch games in the US? I don't have fox soccer channel so I can only catch games every now and then when they are on ESPN.

online. plenty of feeds for every game. Varying qualities and commentary languages, but they're out there.


A few years ago my friends (chelsea supporters) and myself (arsenal supporter) lived together at school, and the tech people actually came to ask us why we spent so much time every weekend on a website called "iraqgoals" thinking it was weird. Nope, was just one of the best sites for feeds so we'd watch everything on it.

unfortunately it's really hit/miss though. Some days you'll find every game, english commentary, hd. Others you find a slideshow with commentary in japanese.

Bale's header would have easily been parried away, and sorry, but Benny's just wrecked face there... He gets through without a penalty, he still scores what with his skill and finishing abilities...

Spurs couldn't contain HBA almost all match. If he would have been given the ball more, shit would have gone pearshaped fast for Tottenham.. I really hope we start feeding him more consistant touches, because he's bloody fucking brilliant.

One thing I was surprised by was Papiss Cisse's performance. He really didn't do much at all, and really just scrambled around the back trying to get the defense to make a bad touch. Didn't seem all that fit, really. That's not what I'm used to seeing from him.

Still. Santon was downright HORRIBLE in that match... his absolute incompetence in managing the pace of the play is what lead to almost every single chance Spurs had. I know that Lennon and Kyle Walker are bloody quick and not the easiest to contain, but that was nearly disastrous... easily the weakest spot of the day. everyone else was at the least, quiet and pylonic... rather than useless.

Dude can't handle not getting first team football at Chelsea, he just bitched at Di Mateo and Blues management 'till the agreed to a Loan or transfer. Honestly I don't really see him ever playing for us again, he seems like he's really started to resent the club for "wasting his time."

Too bad, kids a freak athlete for sure.

God damn United. I think we just have too much talent and we can't figure out how to make it work. I'd like to see Kagawa to the bench. Rooney to holding forward. Welbeck/RVP to last man. Young/Valencia to wing. If Valencia then Rafael to outside back. Maybe even put Scholes at attacking center mid and leave Cleverly solo at D mid.

Kagawa to the bench? He was your best player going forward today. I'd play a 4-2-3-1 with Nani and RVP on the wings, and Kagawa behind Rooney.

looks like thats the case for now. kagawa should not be on the bench though, united desperately needs an attacking midfielder with good movement and intelligence who can pass the ball. 4-2-2-2 maybe? scholes/cleverly/carrick/anderson/giggs as the more defensive two, kagawa/valencia/nani/young as the more offensive two, then rvp/rooney/welbeck/chicharito as the forwards. i just think rooney and rvp are both too good at finishing to put on of them on the wing. or maybe how they did today but let the wingers play more centrall. but that might sacrifice too much width offensively

RVP has to be central. As for Nani or Young being in the middle I think they need space to work their magic in a 1v1 out wide since they would likely get doubled in the middle. Pretty much what I want is United to play in the formation they did last year and Kagawa does not fit in my opinion since Rooney drops back deep and Kagawa is in his space. Another problem I have with Kagawa is that he doesn't attack as much. I understand he plays great passes and works the ball to others well, but I want someone who can create a play, which I think is Rooney. Rooney is good enough to play anywhere, but to max his potential I think he needs to be able to come back and receive a pass at his feet like he did last year(sorta how Berba always checks to the midfield instead of a typical forward through run).

I'll be just as happy if they can make it work with Kagawa, but I just can't see it happening.

You just described Kagawa. Maybe you got the wrong impression of him from this game. I understand RVP out wide isn't his ideal spot, but to get the maximum amount of talent onto the pitch at one time, that's where they'll have to play him. The RVP buy still seems like a waste to me. United didn't need another striker.

By "create a play" I meant take a defender or have a threatening shot. You cant just put someone on the field wherever you want to "have more talent on tue field" that is nonsense. If that were the case Berba would clearly be on the field somewhere. I agree with you on not needing RVP. I think Welbeck did just fine as the last man last year. I dont think Rooney's best spot is last man or playing somewhere where a mate is flat to him on the pitch. I thino Rooney's success is key to Man Utd's. and apologies for grammar Im on mobile

RVP's pretty comfortable playing out on the right and cutting in on his left. I'm really just a big fan of Kagawa and would hate to see someone as good as him rot on the bench.

Yea I understand. I admit I do not know much about him, but from what Ive seen I think hes like Scholes except more attack oriented. It pains me to see the caliber of players that Man Utd have on the bench. I kove that they have the insurance, but Berba, Chicharito, Young, possibly Welbeck deserve more time

if he has a good season...good for the team. But he's likely to leave.

Adebayor is a mercenary of the highest order and he gladly accepts that, which in my eyes is better than false loyalty.

But the fact still remains that no matter how well he's played or how much the team needs him, if the money is better somewhere else, expect him to go.

I know he took a wage cut to transfer, but man city also paid him the difference to leave.

united probably don't need him, but not because they have plenty of talent in midfield, he just doesnt play the position they are lacking talent in i.e. central midfield. as much as fergie doesn't want to admit it, united are going to need a strong defensive midfielder if they want to start evra and rafael/valencia as their outside backs. none of the three can are very reliable defensively
