after the success of last seasons thread and the new season only a short wait away after the euros i think it could be time to kick this off

di matteo is set to be confirmed as the new chelsea manager, will he work miracles again?

who's your team and how well do you think they'll do this year?

nacho monreal moved to Arsenal and had a good debut.

Newcastle bought the French ligue, and beat chelsea with them.


Good result for Arsenal today. I'm sorry, but stoke really do barely play football. I can respect a good bus parking defensive show, but they don't even do that. Just foul, and hoof it up field.

Everton scrape out a draw too...hopefully tottenham lose, and things can get back to normal.

that's the english' preferred method of soccer, right? ugly, violent, and lacking completely in any kind of real skill. stoke are just the masters of the english style of play: close your eyes and swing your leg at the ball as hard as you can and hope you aren't facing your own net.

Well, there was one huge move, but no one around here really follows anything but the EPL. Willian moved from Shakhtar to Anzhi for $47 million. Chelsea and Spurs have been trying to sign him for years. He's ridiculously good. Losing him really hurts Shakhtar's chances in the UCL.

Ahh yeah I didn't really pay attention to the transfer window here. Only a little bit to EPL/France/Germany.

I never saw that Willian moved. Huge hit for shaktar. I can't wait for knockout rounds.

newcastle made the easily the best signing with sissoko for 1.8 mi ,fucking bargain judgng by yesterdays performance

haha lots of top flight teams have gone been beaten by lower league team recently not just liverpool, they are a very attacking team, a lot of their inconsistencies came down to the limitations of having one decent striker who could be played out of the game, we'll see in a minute when they play man city, i personally think they have one of the most threatening attacks in the the pl at the moment and that they will finish comfortably top 5, not a liverpool fan btw

welp i've officially given up on city repeating this year. united is too good/too deep and city seems to be wavering at this point in the season. A draw vs QPR? cmonnn. and they didnt even deserve a draw v liverpool today just got lucky that reina is a gumbi and that aguero is a beast.

because they only have one player on their team who can score goals. and they probably can finish top 5 judging by the heaping pile of shit that has been the epl this season. no one is playing particularly well, anything can happen. them finishing top 5 doesn't mean they are "sick" though.

you honestly think sturridge is a reliable goal scorer? come off it, son, take off your england hat. he just isn't. he couldn't get a game in on a team where the only other striker was fernando torres, who has been one of the worst finishers in the epl over the last 2 years. 23 year old reliable goal scorers don't get sold by big teams except for huge amounts of money. and sturridge went for around 12 million. he has potential, yes, but he has a long, long way to go before he can be considered a reliable goal scorer

people seem to be hung up on the idea that since liverpool drew against a 2nd place team, they are therefore equal to second place, and thus should be higher on the table than they are.

liverpool are a lower top half club now. They shouldn't get into the CL, but won't drop into obscurity.

And liverpool can complain that 9/10 times, aguero doesn't score that opportunity all you want, but the same can be said of gerrard's goal.

gerrard does have a cannon on him....liverpool are gonna be lost without him in a few years when he retires.

Aguero actually had to be precise. In the end stevie just blasted it and kept it down. Hell of a shot/goal, but not the same skill set required for the type of goal aguero scored.

yes he is a good player, he has already made some pretty obvious indications that he plays well up front with suarez, just because he didn't start often for chelsea doesn't mean he isn't a decent player, it just means that other players within the team worked better with the formation and style of play that the managers were trying to play and that they had a £50mi striker they were obliged to play because of their owner, £12 million is not a cheap signing! he doesn't need to be a reliable scorer eiher, they already have suarez, they just need someone firstly as a back up in case suarez gets injured and someone with pace, vision, and passing ability (it is just bonus that he can finish).

sparknotes: why do they need a reliable goal scorer when they have one of the top three strikers in the prem? that is not why they bought sturridge

i'm sorry but that was one of the best goals of the season, perfectly struck and hitting just inside the post, this is one of gerrard signature skills and one of the reasons why he has scored 6 goals this season in midfield

To maintain where they are and maybe move up a little, you're right, sturridge is fine.

But the problem is that if they want to really jump back into the top 4 and be competitive in europe again, they need more goalscorers.

Look at united....rooney, rvp, hernandez (a bit) and seemingly everyone else score fairly consistently.

Chelsea...Ba, Torres, Mata, Lamapard and everyone else. (seriously...everyone else. Everyone on chelsea is capable of scoring. They're in a slump right now, but they'll bounce back like always)

Even Arsenal, who are underperforming, Giroud, Walcott, Podolski, cazorla, arteta and wilshere are all good for a goal from time to time.

And no, I didn't. I'm saying that you need more goalscorers rather than goals from one individual. Suarez can certainly score a few, but you're never going to compete when he's the only one doing it

I have to give liverpool credit, as despite everything, they did pull out 2 draws in 2 weeks against sides ahead of them in the table. Granted it took some of the very worst defending Arsenal has ever displayed, but all the same...points are points.
