Living in Canada

I never really hear anything about Canada having any economic problems or any problems in general. I am going to college in 3 years and would like to know the ups and downs of living in Canada compared to the United States, BC in particular. I have an island house in Charleston, Ontario, would this give me the ability to become a dual citizen? +K for any help!

I just had this conversation with a girl I met from Philadelphia, she was all into the possibility of moving to Canada and working here, apparently has some family here but doesn't know much about the country or how immigration works. She had some really naive questions about legal pot and coloured money and the usual stuff yanks ask us about, and of course she asked if I played hockey, to which I replied, "do I play hockey?

you should check out ubc vancouver, one of the best schools in the world! are one of your parents candian? im canadian but went to high school in vermont, and im paying $25,000 for my entire undergrad, most of my friends going to american schools pay more than that per year

It's that cheap because you're from here and it's subsidized. US students pay out the ass to go to school in Canada. Not more than US schools, mind you, but not a lot less. When I was there years ago it was maybe $15 grand per year for someone from the states.

It is generally exceptionally difficult to get a Canadian visa / perm res status out of the blue. If you have employment lined up they are usually equipped to handle the ins and outs, but then they could just give you an idea of what you need to do and how long the process will take. A student visa should not be anywhere near as big a hassle if you're enrolled somewhere in Canada.

Well it depends. if you move more up north of BC houses tend to be a lot cheaper then the houses down here in Vancouver. I recommend going up north near Kelowna and attend the Okanogan version of UBC, I forgot what its called

But yeah I've only been to the US a few times and honestly I can't think of a single reason why I would want to live there over canada. except for maybe that instead of being middle class I would become upper middle class.

1) attend university with a study permit

2) apply for a post-graduate work permit right before you graduate, which is usually valid for the amount of time you studied in canada. the permit only costs $150 and is the only thing you need once your study permit expires. you don't even need to have a job lined up before you get one.

3) my work permit is actually still valid until july 2014 even though i moved back to the states already. im thinking about using it some ski season to go work out at kicking horse though.

4) if you are really interested in staying there and have a solid job then you can look into becoming a permanent resident. the requirements are on citizenship canada's website. i believe you have to live 2 out of every 5 years in canada to remain a permanent resident. i originally thought you had to get rid of your us citizenship, but that's not the case.

Kelowna and the Okanogan are sick, great skiing in the winter at big white and the summers are nice and warm. You have a lake to hang out on surrounded by mountains, if I had the chance to go to school there I would.

Also I think Canada is very similar to the States, we have our good people and our dumb fucks unless you go to Quebec, then the majority of people are assholes.
