park service blew it up?
We're Not Lost, Just On An Adventure from Nathan Peterson on Vimeo.
I'm pretty sure this is the one you are referring to, but if not, read it anyways. It's lengthy but well worth it.
double post.
heres a pretty good one from the thread posted above^
The following year is when it got weird. We were hunting the same canyon and
spotted a couple bulls. To close the distance we would have to drop down to the
river and follow the tracks to a place where we could cross. This route took us
into Enright which we believed to be uninhabited. We passed the cabins on the
way in but soon after abandoned our hunt for more accessible elk. On the return
we noticed smoke coming out of the stack of one of the two cabins, and elk not
75 yards away across the river. As we crouched behind a passenger car parked
there in a siding, hoping for a bull to show up, a well kept, clean shaven man
in his mid forties stepped out onto the porch of the cabin. He informed us that
there were no bulls to be found and then invited us in for coffee. When we
replied that it was late and we should continue, he told us in a very direct way
that we should "get marchin". But then again asked us to stay. So we joined him
for coffee.
The cabin was right out of a dream for anyone who loves the
outdoors. There was a full garden, fruit trees, and the elk we had seen were
still there as in a picture framed by the front room windows. There were many
newspaper clippings and lots of memorabilia from the Tillamook burn. Upon
entering the cabin one first noticed a very nice assault rifle hanging on the
wall with a large magazine. My dad asked how many it held, and the man leaned in
very close and answered "65, 66 there's one in the chamber". Even at this we
wer'nt bothered too much being hunters an gun buffs ourselves. But when asked
about the many very nice deer and elk racks on the wall, he answered only "I
don't hunt those, I hunt people". At that we took our leave. I was only 14 at
the time but will never forget that one.
