Question about a refund on a credit card

Rented a textbook and paid using my credit card. I ended up sending it back and I'm just wondering, how will the refund appear on my credit card? If my current balance on my card is $1000 and the book was $50 to rent, will my bill just be reduced to $950 after I am refunded? I'm sure it's an obvious answer, but this is my first credit card so I'm new to this.

The real question is, if you have a 1000 dollar limit, and a 0 dollar balance, then what happens?

you get a 50 dollar credit and your new limit is 1050. You can contact them and ask them to cut you a $50 check if you want or if you're closing your account.
