Use the internet, Google some people's ideas and craft your own. Ask friends maybe, or classmates. I really think that NS is not a great source to help you with your HW.

BTW why so many of these threads on school help all the sudden, did NS just start caring about school as finals approach?

Also, America is a Representative Democracy, as opposed to True Democracy, where everything is voted on individually, which would be less convenient.

Probably because it is a republic. ;) You know those two houses of oxygen thieves we call congress that argue about everything, ya well thank god for them. Democracy is one of the worst forms of government there is. Ternary of the majority. Rwanda '94 was a good example of what happens when the majority has an uncontested vote.

By the way, what sort of idiot teacher assigns that sort of paper? The assignment should have been: "Discuss the state of democracy within America." Instead he/she is dictating that you write a paper designed to develope your opinion to fall in line with his/her own. What a quack.
I think a great response would be "America is not a democracy; thank god for that."

I would love to see your teachers response.

you could get really technical/superficial too. Because a true democracy involves having everyone in the country voting on every issue we ever have. Obviously this isn't possible, the only place this was every used was in greece way back when.

well you have to assume that this kid is probably not that far into highschool. Back in grade 9 i would get questions like that for essays, now a days the questions are a lot more abstract, makes it a little bit harder to begin with but gives you so much more freedom to write what you want.

Because you only vote once every 4 years; therefore, you're not voting on the pressing issues from day-to-day. rather you vote for someone to represent your overall views. unfortunately, most politicians run on false promises and don't accurately represent everyone's point of view (i.e., great minds don't always think alike or whatever). plus politicians can be bought or sold for the right price.

You don't have to be a communist to argue that the US is not a democracy. I bet if woozy were in this thread he'd be talking about how the founders hated democracy because it is tyranny of the majority and that the US is a constitutional republic. John Adams said that democracy is 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.

Besides, communist is a label thrown around way too often. Next time you consider using the word ask yourself, does this have anything to do with revolutionary socialism aimed at creating a classless, moneyless and stateless society with common ownership of all means of production? It probably doesn't.
