Take liners out of boots over summer or not?

Sup NS, i just got me a pair of Full tilt hot doggers for a great end season deal. But im not gonna use them for another 8 months, so what should i do with them in that time? Should i take the liners out like that for those 8 months, or should i keep the liners inside of them?

I don't see any reason why it would matter either way.

Although the debate lies whether to keep them buckled or unbuckled during the 8 months.

I say buckled so that the shell doesnt expand but I'm interested in why people say to keep them unbuckled.

Story time!

So, this dude comes into the shop complaining his boot has given him extreme discomfort over the day. He informs the bootfitter that it was his first time wearing them this season and that he had kept them buckled all summer (which our shop suggests).

Upon pulling out the liner, we discover 3 baby mouse corpses. Mama mouse had made a home of his liner but didn't make it along for the ski trip.

He bought new liners that night.


So unless they are sealed, I'd say pull the liner and buckle.

I'm storing them in a boot bag, so i should keep the liner inside the boot and then buckle them?

If you haven't worn them, that should be fine. Aim for a dry place. Cause boot bag in hot summer if they have been worn can cause bacteria to grow... leaving you with stink.

But yeah, over the summer in a boot bag buckled should be fine. you can always throw in some foot powder just in case or even those little bead things that keep stuff dry.

Just depends where you live.

I live in denmark, so we dont have that hot summers (MAX 30 degrees celcius(86 F), and there generally pretty cold in my closet, so that shouldn't be a problem, thx for the help btw.

well unbuckled is putting the least amount of stress on any part of the boot as it's letting the shell hang how it wants to, so if you're worried about the shell changing shape then unbuckled seems like it would be the way to go. not that I think the shell would change shape anyways. maybe by a few microns at most. Also, unbuckled lets more air circulation throughout the boot. If it's stored somewhere that might get damp or humid then this is obviously the way to go.

that being said, I buckle mine. I really don't think it will make much of any difference either way though.

Professional company opinion: after you have made sure that your liners are DRY, store them in a cool, dry place (ideally in a boot bag so nothing gets in them) and gently buckled.

If you leave the boots unbuckled, things can break if you are not careful with how you store them (buckles twist, velcro straps get fuzzed out, etc). Also, unbuckled boots will go back to their original mold shape, which means that traditional cuffs would open and then be more difficult to close. That doesn't really affect FTs but when in doubt buckle things up on a gentle setting.

From experience with a Solly Ghost. If I leave them buckled they are hard to get on the first notch, when I leave them unbuckled they are almost impossible. But then again I have man legs.

Sounds like one of those extreme cases. But I always keep my liners in and buckle my boots up so that they keep their shape.

Before i switched to full tilts, i always buckled mine. They seemed to lose shape badly and were always hard to buckle back up if i didnt. Now that i have full tilts, i still do. I have booters and the top buckle wont even buckle if i dont have my foot in it
