Texas Wedding with 5D Mark 3, Critiques appreciated.

not bad man, only got a couple of minutes in because I gotta get to sleep, but the only small things I noticed were:

2:43, the shot of the bride being walked down the stairs: super super great shot, but felt underexposed. maybe brighten it up just a tad.
first song seems really depressing for a wedding film, but noticed it switches to something upbeat @ ~3min (where I paused)

I'll try to pick more out tomorrow morning. But some great stuff in there! (And damn the groom had an epic beard)

Overall: very well done. They're going to be happy with that.

A couple things I noticed:

I didn't like the song. It was kind of down for me. I usually prefer something more uplifting when watching a film about "the happiest day of two people's lives."

At 3:02, your horizon line seems off - rotate/adjust needed?

At 3:48ish you cut between the groom's vows and the bride's vows. You've had the footage of the groom repeating what the priest says each time but on the last one you cut him off. It's kind of a jarring cut and I think it'd transition better if you let that part run just two-three seconds longer and let him repeat the words.

Two things about the ending; I was hoping it'd fade to black, not white, because the shot was already so dark. And I think it'd be nice if you put their names again at the end of the video, not your name (at least for their version). They know its you who made the video but more importantly the video is about them. You may have made the video but it is THEIR video, you know? Let them have the ender. You don't get that much promotional value out of this anyway and any references that may come out of this won't be lost by changing this.

Other than that...I thought it was fucking banger. You had some fantastic shots in there. I loved the shot of the bride giving her vows. I hung on every word. Great product man, you did a good job.

Thanks for the kind words! I will look into those things and correct if needed. The groom was super quiet (or his massive beard acted as a muffler) and the bride sounded so much better, but I will try to extend.

On the intro song, the reason for producing this video was to jump into the wedding market in Washington. There is some competition but not much and I wanted to create something totally different sounding that had no similarities with any other video producer in the area. It is a bit darker but I though it provoked a good amount of emotion which is what I was going for. Since I usually stick to the action sports/small business side of production I gave the Bride a half price discount on what I would normally charge if I could bookend with my logos. But, I will fade to black, add their names, then my logo. Thanks again for the critiques guys appreciate it.

It's not so much about hearing him as it is about the smoothness of the cut. It just seems jumpy as is.

And again; this is righteous. For a first wedding; pretty unbelievable.

Hey, I thought it was really well done. The only thing I noticed is I don't remember a shot of the big first kiss after being married. I might've missed it but if you have that shot I would definitely throw that in there cause its probably "THE" moment of the weddings. But I thought the rest was really good!

As said before, for a first wedding, this is really really well done. seriously.

as for critiques (some of which have already been mentioned)-

the song's are a bit slow. they are sweet and loving, but not fun and like a celebration. maybe use one during the ceremony or something since that is an emotional moment, but afterwards I want to be celebrating etc. the levels of the songs seemed pretty low as well, I found myself turning my volume almost all the way up so I could hear it well enough.


2:36-2:43ish- both shots seem under exposed and on the first shot of the bride, the vignette is way too much. instead of causing me to look at the bride, it caused me to look at the bottom right because of the large black spot.

2:58- seems a bit cool

3:27-5:00ish- audio. It is the hardest thing to get to sound good and I am not sure what your audio set up was, but generally, its just something to work on. it seemed like you had to really boost his audio and everything else seemed kinda muffled, like in the final shot when they are walking down the isle. also, I don't know how I feel about the fades to black during the ceremony. you have multiple camera angles, use them as a way to transition the audio and make it seem fluid. in the wide first shot, maybe try to crop out that thing in the top right. it is kinda distracting and almost looked like a boom mic or something haha I know there's not much you can do with audio, it just takes practice, especially with weddings.

6:07- I agree, the fade should be something other than white. it seems like a strange transition from dark to bright white.

Thanks for the input George, much appreciated! Made a few changes with sound, color, exposure, and fades. Audio was hard with this one becasue we ended up letting the Bride and Groom use our wireless lavs to plug into the main sound board so they could project to the audience. I had to end up then hooking up my H4N directly to the sound board and the levels were hard to sync at that point. Next go around gonna definitely hook into the H4N directly. Thanks for the tips!

well done. the lack of a kiss seemed really awkward though. and question what was that second song? i liked it.
